Giovanni Manu never dressed for a regular-season game last season with the Detroit Lions, but offensive line coach Hank Fraley said Manu finished his rookie season on a positive note.
“I liked where he ended last year, where he was with his play, where his demeanor was, where he really was assignment wise,” Fraley said. “He really did a good job and he grew every day.”

Manu spent part of the offseason in Arizona training with Lions left tackle Taylor Decker for offensive line guru LeCharles Bentley. Fraley said he’s anxious to see Manu on the field when pads come on in training camp, and that will be the true measuring stick of how much he’s developed.
“There was a lot we changed with him and I told him when we drafted him, there was going to be a lot I was going to change how he did things,” Fraley said. "So all these things he’s heard a whole year of me say it and it’s now, ‘OK, can I take this and now without thinking about all these little things that come into play, can I keep playing fast?’ And that’s what we’re going to see.
“I think the biggest thing for O-line, you don’t have to be the most talented, you don’t have to be the strongest, you don’t be the fastest. You got to be the most consistent. If you’re consistent. You’ll play.”
