“Uncle Dennis” has been doing shady shit with Kawhi for a long time and Kawhi doesn’t seem like a strong enough personality to break off from him so he does whatever Uncle Dennis wants. Somehow Kawhi gets off scot free with a fine that is pocket change for him and he gets to play at his preferred location. Must be nice

Yes. You don’t take it. You be happy with the gazillion dollars that you are getting for playing 5 games a year and leave the “illegal” stuff alone.
I’m concerned about how little importance you make it seem to have some integrity.
It’s easy to “have integrity” until you’re the one that’s actually being offered the money.
The league’s position is that it’s the teams’ jobs to not offer deals like that. That’s the whole reason the Clippers had their whole future completely ■■■■■■ yesterday.

The time for a sign and trade is long gone now as teams have constructed their final rosters more or less. I predict that they’ll get a long term deal worked out right up to the October 1st Qualifying Offer deadline and I bet it’s a middle ground of around something like 4 years $150m which is more than I’d be comfortable spending but, whatever, just get it done at this point.

It takes two to tango, Kawhi and his representation knew exactly what they were doing with the cap circumvention. All parties deserved harsh penalties and only one got it.

Oh of course Kawhi knew exactly what he was doing. He wanted to do that. I just don’t know how you prove that without also investigating the other teams who were in on him to see if circumvention was legitimately a part of his free agent decision making. You need evidence to deliver these kinds of punishment.
I’m not trying to say that what he did is “ok.” Let me be clear about that. What I’m trying to say is that, unfortunately, there’s a lot of people in the real world that lack integrity by your definition.
The whole investigation has been fishy. They stated that they had no findings of cap circumvention just a few weeks ago as if the investigation was closing and now they drop the hammer shortly after. The NBA has always, under Silver, been very player friendly and seemingly scared to disturb them or the PA. Maybe you’re right and they couldn’t find evidence to implicate Kawhi but this just seems like another case of player catering by the league.

That’s not really the full story that Ballmer hooked him up…the full story is that Kawhai approached the Clippers with these opportunities that Uncle Dennis has been grifting for and the Clippers went along with it.
This dude knew what time it was for the last however many years but probably 7 to 10, which probably should have been as punishment, dirtbag.
Remember When there is no evidence against Tyrion Arnold and everybody was sitting there twiddling their thumbs saying I don’t know why you think he would have done anything gee he would have been arrested by now…
And a certain peacekeeping varmint said they’re just waiting to corroborate the dime that’s already been dropped on this dude with technical information. Lo and behold we find out only a couple weeks later that the dime had already been dropped on him long ago and they were completing the investigation, but what they don’t do is come out to the media in the middle of investigation and say oh yeah we got some s*** on this guy and here’s what it is chapter and verse. It doesn’t work that way in the world of investigation and law enforcement. You don’t show your cards in the middle of the hand.
Good chance it’s the same thing here. From what I’ve read there were four different companies involved in this one of which went bankrupt probably as a prophylactic measure to make sure that they didn’t get sued by the NBA who I’m sure got involved and threatened them with being sued or at least bringing their shady s*** out into the public and being part of the fraud investigation the police were already putting on them and the owner (who is now in jail for fraud) who was under the gun for it all. Now repeat that same threat to the other three smaller companies and Uncle Dennis, and now go to Shady butthole Leonard and threaten him with a couple year no salary ban from the league… and see who starts turning into Luciano Pavarotti. Aren’t you curious as to why dude has to basically just give up one paycheck and he’s off and good to go?
Oh I don’t know maybe because he handed over The Nine Inch Nails and Hammer to Silver for Ballmer’s coffin.

There’s nothing illegal about it. I would argue that it’s not immoral, either. Maybe unethical, but it’s a technicality, in my mind.
The salary cap is for owners and teams to fret about.
Question for those smarter than me. How is this not tax evasion of some kind? Money to his uncle, shell companies, paychecks from different companies for employment in another business. Doesn’t it seem like the feds would want in on this, given the amount he is paid?

Completely disagree with the rest of your post. He knew it was wrong, and went along with it willingly for financial gain. I can’t see it as being anything else other than immoral. He should be suspended for a year and have to pay the 50+ million back that he got from the 4 different companies that he didn’t endorse. Getting fined 700 grand when you gained 50 million is a joke.
The reason he got slapped on the wrist was that it allowed the NBAPA to fight it and take it to Arbitration if the punishment was much more severe, which also allwed Ballmer and the Clippers to do the same.
Its kinda pick your poison, but by doing what they did, the NBAPA doesnt fight back, and the Clippers now only avenue to fight back against the ruling is to take it to federal courts, which also opens up Balmer to Discovery…. which is insanely risky for him. He might still do it cause hes got ■■■■ you money, but credit to Silver, he played this incredibly well.
