Gibbs and La Porta

100% yes!
Future move…not for “this year” ever.
Campbell is a physical freak, & I love everything about this post → completely agreee. This cat is gonna be a monster. He’s a different animal than Micah Parsons & won’t have THAT much impact, but he is a monster and RBs especially will hate playing against him. Ppl his size are not supposed to move like that

I will say that overall I feel like the Lions have a culture and a scheme that requires some time to adapt and learn. I am not sure what that means or if that is a truly good or bad thing. But it is a reality it seems for some players.

And maybe it is the guys who are more athletic that are taking a bit longer. That they had relied on natural ability more than some so learning the rules has been more difficult???

Anyway, I am willing to be patient. Lets see where this ends up.

Some talk about Campbell in this thread. He looked good from the stadium view this week. There was a point when he moved Benito I think into a different gap because he read which gap the run would go through pre snap and low and behold, a TFL.

You watch this kids athletic ability at his size and it’s special. His instincts in college were exceptional, and he has shown that in glimpses this year but you can tell he is thinking too much.

Then you listen to him speak and he just oozes passion for the game. This kid is all about football. He will work his tail off this off-season to get better. I honestly would not be surprised to see him earn accolades in 2024 like a pro bowl or even an All Pro, that is how highly I think of him.

I can’t think of a better draft

He’d been awful all year until AA went out with injury. He stepped up big time, and has been playing well since

Loved watching how much love and respect he had for Brad Dan and Speilman. Especially Speilman…you could see him taking mental notes every time chris spoke. It almost felt like he was taking mental notes on how Chris moves, carries himself, etc. 100% buy in. It’s a huge part of why I believe in him.

PICK NO. 18: DETROIT LIONS: LB JACK CAMPBELL

Overall Rookie Grade: 56.9 (Rank: 2/5)
Principal Opponent: T.J. Hockenson
Week 16 Snaps: 46
Week 16 Grade: 76.3

Campbell led the way for a Detroit defense that allowed just 17 rushing yards to Minnesota. His 82.9 run-defense grade was a game high, and he did not earn a single negative grade in the process. Outside of an understandably rough game in Baltimore, Campbell has been a borderline top-10 run-defending linebacker this season. That’s an incredible accomplishment for a rookie who was lauded more for his coverage skills on draft day.

This guy is growing right before our eyes.

Didn’t care the first time around.
I’m the guy that responded, “Hell Yes”, when the Gibbs pick was announced.

My brother!!

He’s Chris Johnson with better juking ability, but I don’t think this staff will ever give him the amount of touches to put up those types of numbers he and Faulk had. I’m fine with that to keep the wear of the tires. It’s not like you are moving to trash with Monte either. I think this staff is doing it right. Leaning on Monte for the grunt work and 4 minute stuff when we have the lead.

I can’t remember who I had all the back and forth with here but they were very down on Gibbs in the lead up to the draft. Said he was soft etc. I’m hoping he’s been pleasantly surprised at what he’s been as a pro.

I was all in on Gibbs before the draft. I was hoping to get him in the 2nd but am beyond thrilled that we got him…even with a high draft pick.

Yeah, I think he was my 2nd round pick in like every mock I did… I was surprised when we took him at 12 in all honesty, but if Brad got confirmation post draft that others were going to take him ahead of 18 then he did the right thing. If you have an hour and a half on your hands, I recommend going back and watching the inside the den episode 3 which covers the war room during the entire draft. With our rooks doing so well, it was really cool to revisit when it was all going down.

I’ve probably been as hard as anyone on the Campbell pick BUT I’ve starting to be of the opinion that we are really going to see him hit his stride in 2024. It sucks for him that the 2 guys we picked AFTER him are looking to be total studs.

Had we gone:

1a Gibbs
1b Branch
2a LaPorta
2b Campbell

we’d have the same 4 players and probably less pressure/expectations on Campbell.

If I remember correctly, the Giants were ready to take Campbell at their pick in the 1st if he was there.

I remember Dan at some point in the draft in the war room goes: Starter, starter, starter, starter. He was right.

Waste of a pick, haha. Would love to hear who we should have take instead of him that would be playing. Also, I saw PFF grades and Campbell is a top 5 LB in the whole NFL for run defense. Very impressive. Guy will only continue to improve as he get time to develop.

He will end up being my favorite pick in this years draft when it is all said and done and that is really saying something.
