Gibbs in the upper right

His career is over. Tore the other achilles this time. I actually feel for the guy. 2 torn achilles in less than 4 years

Totally feel for the guy. Managed to excel despite being a one-man offensive show for a woeful Florida State team. Gets injured. Comes back. Maligned and unceremoniously kicked to the curb, traded for peanuts by the McVay regime - yah, whodathunkit?! - and now a second Achilles injury.

(FWIW, Akers certainly comes across as a good guy and, more instructive, also seemed well-liked by his teammates in LA.)

Still, if nothing else he will have earned a few million in what might indeed be a short career.

Injured, misused; He Cam, he saw, he got conquered.

Whatā€™s Mattisonā€™s excuse, though ? Has the Vikes OL runblocking been that bad ? Since a key to explosive runs, other than chalupas, is downfield blocking by TEs & WRs, can it be blamed on Hock ? ( taps spoon on pot rim after vigorous stirring & scuttles awayā€¦)

On the most recent Athletic Football show Robert Mayes references a conversation he had with John Dorsey prior to the season. When Gibbs came up guess what name Dorsey came up with?

Itā€™s been a while since @TNutZz posted that, so maybe things have changed a bit, but that chart is absolutely stunning.

Of all the backs listed there, Gibbs literally has BOTH the highest explosive run rate AND the lowest negative yardage rate.

Even allowing for their somewhat different run profiles, given that Montgomery is right in the middle of the chart itā€™s pretty hard to chalk up Gibbsā€™ success to the OL since DM runs behind the same group.

Stunning talent.

I think Charles is the better comp for Achane. To me Gibbs is more like Chris Johnson. Both are super explosive, but Achane is more of a 12 carry guy thatā€™s slight and more injury prone, where Gibbs can be a 25 carry workhorse guy if need be. Both are ideally best in a 2 back system. I donā€™t think Achane could carry the load by himself for a whole season, where I think Gibbs could if we didnā€™t have Monty.

Charles had back to back 320 touch seasons. Not quite the reckless 400 touch season that Jeff Fisher put CJ2K through but both were IMO workhorses.

I donā€™t think we ever intend to put that level of tread on Gibbsā€™ tires in a single year. Nor should we.

Jamaal Charles was my comp for him as well and I think he may be the closest I can think of still.

With that said, Gibbs is more physical than Charles was. Gibbs also has a lot to improve on as a WR to be as good as Charles was.

Charles himself wasnā€™t much of a receiver when he came out of Twxas. In fact Gibbs is further along at the same age. Power? Thatā€™s probably true. Gibbs packs a surprising punch. To be honest I wish heā€™d weed that out of his game except for the absolute most necessary situations.
Iā€™m referring to those open field collisions. The risk/reward isnā€™t worth it IMO.

Stylistically Charles was a former elite hurdler and you could see it in his gait. Johnson kept his feet closer to the ground much like Gibbs.
So I guess I could see that. But while incredibly fast, Gibbs isnā€™t CJ2K fast. Probably five guys in the history of the league had that kind of speed.

Dang I didnā€™t realize Charles had that many carries in a single season!

Touches. But he did have 285 carries in 2012. RBs weee used differently then. The CJ2K volume is insane. Itā€™s only 29 touches short of theat Jamal Anderson season that Dan Reeves was so roundly criticized for.

Gibbs contact balance at full speed is ELITE. I canā€™t believe how many times this year Iā€™m like ā€œoh sh!t, heā€™s gonna get blastedā€ and then Gibbs is the one left standing, delivering the punishment.

Heā€™s not great at breaking tackles when heā€™s picking his way through the hole, but damn when heā€™s in top gear heā€™s a load.

Gibbs has an ELITE ability to ā€œget smallā€ and avoid big hits.

It is an instinct.

The best comp other than Chris Johnson would beā€¦
