According to Louis Riddick, Gibbs will be a front runner for MVP next year.
He said that Gibbs is everything you could want in a RB, in today’s NFL.
I believe they are very close in talent level and both teams are lucky to have them. Who is going to be the better back between them will be determined by how they approach the offseason.
I get the feeling that Gibbs is just scratching the surface this season. He was obviously limited early on by the staff bringing him on slowly, but I think he’s still being limited in the sense that his route tree will surely grow into year 2 and he’s going to wind up being the true number 1 as opposed to sharing that role with Montgomery. If he’s healthy and the o-line holds up he could put up 2,000 scrimmage yards next season.
With all due respect to Gibbs, why would they want to do that? They compliment each other perfectly and while Gibbs has shown he can run tough, he doesn’t run DMo tough.
Agreed, and it proves once again that Holmes & co know way more than we do.
I wonder if that would stop people from bellyaching about Archane and positional value?
I love Gibbs, but holy shit that would be insane. This is the best offensive talent we have ever assembled in my lifetime as a Lions fan. Gibbs, LaPorta, and St. Brown are all pro caliber players. If Jamo comes close to his ceiling, look the hell out. Throw in some damn prett good players in their own right in D-Mo, Reynold, and Kalif.
Thats without even mentioning our OLine who is pretty unanimously top 3 in the league and Penei Sewell, who may literally be considered the best OLineman in the entire league in 2024 (PFF actually has him ranked with the highest OL grade this year).
I think everyone will be fine with Jah getting the bulk of the carries earlier in the game. Once the lead is established, let DMo put on his hard hat and go to work.
I’m pretty sure Monty gets a lot of satisfaction stealing the soul of defensive coordinators who know he’s getting the ball but can’t do a damned thing about it.
Thx, I was wondering how this was shaking out. After a slow start for Gibbs, they’re all but even, though I like Gibbs’ YPC. And he’ll surely get better as a receiver…it seems that other teams know its coming when we pass to him.
This is actually pretty sound logic.
No. 1 vs No. 19
I feel like this is gonna be our new ‘Barry vs Emmitt’ argument.
Except we are on the opposite side now, with our Pro Bowl offensive line.
Bijan is a great back, Gibbs is a great back. I would love to have either one in a Lions uniform.
So i am definitely excited to see Gibbs breaking out, but I am slow to say he is way better than Bijan despite the stats. I feel like the Falcons are clueless on offense.
Both are talented. Happy we got Gibbs. If we drafted Bijan at 6 we don’t have LaPorta.
Riddick loves him some Lions, but no way Gibbs is a front-runner for MVP next season. Crazy talk.
He will be splitting the backfield with Monty, and he will be going up against QBs. So very unlikely he can break through to MVP level.
That said, Jahmyr is a stud. Very happy with the selection. He’ll outperform his rookie deal by year 3 for sure. Although, the RB market is what it is. So they might not feel much pressure to redo him.
We have Gibbs for 4 years…plus a 5th year option which I’d fully expect we use.
The temptation to give him more touches is very high. But we also don’t wanna run him into the ground knowing we got him for 5 years.
Monty is also a hammer in the run game and softens these defenders up for Gibbs.
They compliment each other so well
Brock Purdy is going to win the next 11 MVPs.
Who becomes the better back will be determined mostly by their respective offensive lines and schemes. We’ve all seen far too many talented players wasted by the franchises they were drafted to. Braylon Edwards is a good example of that. He could easily been an all pro multiple times if he goes to a better franchise than the browns.
I mean Fields was in the MVP talk for this season
Talk.
Gibbs getting drafted was like the record scratching and the party going dead silent.
I think the ESPN guys had to pause and look up who he even was.
Brad is a maniac
