Wasnt the Warford contract pre rookie salary cap as well?
No sir
What do you mean?
When I watch the oline play on gamepass, I found each lineman would be guilty of a mistake that would destroy drives. Every one of them. Wagner committed the most and Glasgow committed the next most. That being the case, I’m not surprised he hasn’t been locked up already and I have zero remorse over his potential departure.
Also, he gives up the most ground of the 3 inside starters.
I don’t see how this Lions team improves without extending guys like Decker, Golladay, Glasgow, Robinson and a few others. We also need to extend Slay OR trade him and get value back.
We need to stop holes from emerging, not create new holes because we might not have $ to sign free agents.
I fully expect the Lions to re-sign our guys including Glasgow. Signing all these guys takes $ and a commitment to long-term health and growth. Yep, we will be hard-pressed to sign an eye-popping free agent possibly in 2020 but this team is better with our own guys locked down.
Give me our key players locked down, maybe one top end free agent and then another solid draft and to me this franchise can begin to look better then we were in 2020.
Give me our guys back and say an Arik Armstead with a new veteran LBer in the fold too (like maybe a Reggie Ragland) and this team will be positioned well to compete in 2020.
That would maybe allow us to draft the top CB this year nd that would make me very, very happy. Of course if we can get Chase Young then improve the secondary instead of signing Armstead for example.
And while Graham is expensive we have Joe Dah (27 in April) l locked down to a very reasonable contract through 2021 meaning our two starting guards (Dahl and Glasgow) can both be looked at as reasonable deals if we think about combining contracts. I would also be in favor of cutting Wagner to lock down Graham if necessary.
I don’t think the Lions will let Robinson or Glasgow and get nothing in return. That makes little sense at all and would be a very non-Patriot thing to do.
This team doesn’t get better without extending Slay.
Galloday is just as much a no brainier.
Decker will be hard to replace. As will Glasgow. I’d resign them.
A’Shawn? I’m hanging on until a few days before FA, them sending him to visit with the team doctor(s). I want some reasonable assurance that he’s going to play more than he did this year. We’ve carried more than our share of dead weight over the years.
Daniels is done.
I expect him to get 10m per season. Not sure that I want him at that price.
To be honest, I’d like to get rid of Jeff Davidson and let Darrel Bevell dictate his replacement. I assume would be more of a zone blocking. I realize that we keep yo-yo-ing back and forth between schemes but I think our backs would be better suited for a one cut and go scheme and we don’t have any hogs with zero movement that would be made obsolete by such a change (though that may remove whatever future value Crosby might have.)
Ok, that was kind of what I was seeing as well. Every time i said GG was average, people thought I was nuts. The O-line played well this year, i wouldnt be opposed to bringing him back for the right price.
Decker, Slay and Golladay are players you re-sign. Glasgow and Robinson you cull.
I don’t agree with these actions but here is what I’m expecting.
GG is likely gone. It’s obvious BQ planned to let him and A’Shawn hit free agency. Both likely won’t be back because both will draw big money in free agency. More than BQ thinks their worth. Personally I’d send Wagner packing and resign GG.
My guess is we will sign a veteran stop gap OG and let him compete with the rest of the roster. We will probably add a mid rounder OL as well. I expect us to draft DL early in the draft and wouldn’t be shocked if we drafted a DE and DT with our first two picks.
Slay will likely be traded for far less than market value and replaced with a rookie CB.
Golladay will be top priority to resign.
Decker we let ride the year on his option.
I’m there with you except I think Wiggins is their vet OG already and another rookie will be brought in to compete with Ben.
I expect Slay to hold out of OTAs again, show up when money is on the line and play through the year unless our season sucks, then he’ll be traded like Tate was. Either that or he’ll get a small re-up this summer.
We’ll see.
Slay is a perplexing situation to be sure. All the beat reporters have been talking about him. I’m sure ya’ll have read the snippets about the team probably wants to get rid of him “culture fit” and all but if this really is a win or go home season then it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to get rid of your best corner and 3x pro bowler.
No it doesn’t but trading Diggs for a 5th didn’t either. Let’s not forget egos are in the way here and it’s obvious that MP’s ego is bigger than both his and BQ’s brains are.
Truth is they may not have a choice. Slay could very well force their hand. Talk is Slay wants out of Det.
Update:
It appears the assumed $47M availability from above is in error, per LionsWire. The $47M includes Staffords $4M restructure. So, instead of approximately $64M, including the forecast NFL CAP raise of $13M, the Lions will now have approximately $60M to wheel-n-deal.
Glasgow can play 3 positions on the line, is solid, makes almost no blunders, plays tough, is durable and a high character player. OF COURSE the Lions won’t re sign him. He’s our 2nd best o line man and once again had a rock solid season.
Letting him walk is a major blunder, and there are more than a few teams willing to open up the cheque book for him. Glasgow is very dependable and the eye test and grades prove it.
We should try and sign him, but I don’t trust BQ at all.
Tough, yes.
Durable, yes.
High character, yes.
Blunders? Yes, he makes them.
2nd best lineman? 4th, actually.
You’re on an island here. You’ve had a grudge against Glasgow when he came in and took your favourite players spot ( Tomlinson). We all have guys we don’t like, and you have an agenda. It is what it is.
My assessment of Glasgow has absolutely zilch to do with how high I was on Tomlinson. I would love nothing more than to pound the table for Glasgow. Problem is, his play doesn’t warrant it. He does commit blunders. They show up on tape. He does lose footing against some of the better D-Linemen out there. That shows up on tape, too.
Before you accuse someone of having their judgement clouded by feelings toward the player or other players, you probably shouldn’t couple the accusation with such clearly emotional expression toward another player yourself.
I’m pretty sure there are other OL players that will be available in the off season, along with every other position. They might have one, or more of them under consideration. They might even be waiting to see what offers he gets. They can come back with an offer of their own, right?I mean, it’s the first day after the regular season. Give it a minute.
