Who said Goff can’t throw deep? Guess they didn’t check the stats.
Who says Goff cant’ throw Deep? PFF and Next Gen Stats prove Goff has deep ball throwing talent!

I like you already.
This is what do just about everyday make videos about the Lions with a good majority being defending Goff
There are a few here who really advocate that he cannot do this even though history shows he has and can.
Now, how about an in depth look at his ability to read defenses vs always checking down to the easy play and or keeping plays alive longer under duress?
He is going to have every opportunity to show exactly what he can and cannot do.
I believe he is going to show that he is a good, but not great quarterback. I believe that because that is what I believe him to be. I hope he goes and proves that I have underestimated him and I am routing for him.
Oh, sure! This comes out, now.
I was looking forward to telling everyone to suck it when he shows what he’s capable of with help.
I don’t even have to do that let’s understand something last year Goff has without doubt the worst WR group in the NFL. That only got worse after Williams and Cepheus both were injured. You take Decker out as well and bad gameplans by Lynn the fact Goff was even somewhat productive is impressive.
Now let’s also understand something many of our WRs especially in the early part of the season couldn’t get separation which is needed for deeper passing to work better. Goff threw short because that is what he primarily had to work with the check downs were more in my mind desperation or design when Lynn called plays because the play design was crap. When Johnson took over Goff started stretching the field a lot more
I have been saying this on my channel ever since the draft lol
I know.
Actually, that chart is just about exactly what I’d expect. Yellow is “league average.” IMO…does that mean you CAN throw the deep ball? Yup. Does that mean you are good at it…Nope. It proves EXACTLY what I think and thought.
The stats show he is an average deep ball. I think he’s better than average when protected, but worse than average when not. Before someone that is dying to be right chimes in with “that’s all QBs!”…let me explain.
How does an average guy do when pressured?
How does a franchise level guy do when pressured?
How does an elite guy do when pressured?
League average is not what I’m looking for…I’m looking for someone that is borderline franchise/elite.
Goff has to be set and step into the throw, where a dude like Matt could just let it rip. Very different animals.
Goff is very accurate and above average on mid-level routes, as the charts point out. I don’t want to compare our QB to “average,” I want to compare him to upper Esch franchise QBs, because that’s what I’d like to have.
I DO think Goff can get there. I have more faith in Goff than the Gofflings.
I DO want to upgrade, either it’s his improvement or upgrading by getting another guy. I am very, very open to getting another guy.
Goff has some of the worst escapability in the pocket you will ever see, and it’s not just because of physical weakness, it is mindset. Go watch some Doug Flutie hi lights. That’s pure guts. Most of his escapability came from quickness, but the times when he was wrapped up and pulled out…that comes form faith, determination, etc. I literally want to see jared try harder in those situations. I want more toughness, dammit!
I would like to see this too, brother.
I think Goff does this wonderfully too…when perfectly clean.
I just think he needs to be perfectly clean.
That was last year when there weren’t really any deep threats. The other point made was in 2018 with Cooks the deep ball was elite. That year Goff was the 9th rated deep ball passer. For reference Stafford was 20th
That’s not a direct argument that ‘Goff is a better deep ball passer than Stafford’.
That’s an argument that Goff has been and can be one of the better deep ball passers in the league when he has time and weapons
Im crying foul here. You can’t on one hand argue you’re the biggest Goffling and on the other hand continually argue that he’s not tough enough and too physically weak
Sorry Natty, you’re going to have to leave the Goff Ball. Please put down the Goff Syrup and kindly exit. The wives are hosting a Tupperware exchange down the hall. There’s a bowl of tears there if you’re still thirsty
My concern is that Goff’s air yards per attempt had decreased every year since his “glory year” of 2018.
8.7
7.7
6.5
6.4
While he does deserve some leeway in 2021, I have concerns about the drop off in LA. Wasn’t that part of the reason McVay had for dumping him?
Sorry, @BigNatty , he’s right. You can’t be a realist and a Gnobslobber at the same time.
If he’s around 9/10, that’s flirting with good enough, for me.
I’m not the biggest, but I REALLY support him. Love the dude, root for him, and believe he can. Where the disconnect happens is “do I believe he will?”
I do think he’s physically weak compared to most elite, but not all. He’s as strong as Flutie, Montana, and dudes like that. The physical strength isn’t my beef…it’s the mental strength in moments. I think he is incredibly resilient…I just think he doesn’t like to get hit and he makes mistakes out of fear. That’s what it feels like to me. More trust in his team could help with this.
LOL - I really do like Matt a ton better. When Barry left, watching other RBs was like WTF is this shit???
With QB, I do think to myself “Matt would have made that play,” sometimes. I don’t need Goff to be Matt…I just need him to be a tough som’bitch of a leader.
I have been moving a little farther in his direction in listening to some of you guys.
I’m probably more 40% on him now (where a week ago I was 30%). Some posts have swayed me some and help me to feel better about Jared. Posts in this thread, as well as something @BearlyThere posted a few days back have swayed me some.
Hoping, Goff can do it, cuz then I get my DT.
If he can’t, we’re going QB (obviously).
When I say I am a bigger believer than the Gofflings, I mean I expect better numbers from goff and more wins from him than even his biggest supporters.
I also am more willing to move on from him than they are if he’s not leading in the toughness department .
I can be me. LOL. Take a poll from the Gofflings on how many wins they expect the Lions to have next year. I guarantee I’m expecting more.
Stats and numbers too.
My stance comes from a different place → leadership through toughness.
Goff is going to SHRED the regular season. Playoffs are where the pressure and adversity come in. This is what matters to me.

It sounds like you’re working through some complicated emotions. Before you can be a true Goffling I think you first need to move on from your previous relationship. Until then we will hold a place for you here. The syrup is warm and sticky. Cherry flavored
Everytime you write this I laugh. For those of you that do not know the " The Gelfling are the central protagonists of The Dark Crystal franchise. They are slender, elvish humanoids with protracted facial structures who originally populated most of Thra, having three long fingers and a thumb on each hand." I know it is not the same but I keep hearing Gelfling in my head when I read Gofflings.
Hahaha! You’re talking my language, bro. If you re. a human, you are doing this. Translation → only Jack Fox isn’t.
That. Is. HILARIOUS…and probably true.
SO funny, to me. I truly have never felt the same about any RB from any team since Barry left. Sweet Jesus, let goff step into the Franchise level or above category for QBs.
LOL - appreciate you, man. Thanks for thinking of me, even when we dont’ see eye to eye on “club entry requirements,” this still seems fair.
