After watching Stafford last night, I’m glad we have Goff. Stafford has a cannon for an arm, but boy did he miss more than a few easy throws. When he’s on, he’s one of the best. But he does tend to play down to the competition and he certainly did that last night. There is no way they should’ve lost to the 49ers. Obviously a couple of key fumbles by the running backs didn’t help.
2,000 reason’s to love Jared Goff , we just keep finding new facts and data to support he’s a bad ass QB, might take a while for some of it but it surfaces because you guys leave no stones unturned–great job finding this Op !!!
Even after he’s gone.. Stafford threw for just under 400 yds and 3 TDS and no turnovers. He made a ton of massive throws that put them in position to win on multiple occasions. The team had 6 drops, 2 critical fumbles by rbs and have had 4 kicks blocked in the last 3 games. The 2nd fumble at the goalline would have won them the game had he held on.. and so would the blocked xp. And on the clutch drive to win the game in OT.. they took the outcome out of his hands and gave it to the guy that kept making mistakes. Yet people look at the like 2 missed throws the QB has in an entire game?
Well it’s mostly McVay’s lingering accuracy and consistency. Jared is merely a vessel. Unless he has a bad game in which case he lost touch with his inner Sean and that is on Jared.
I do think some dropped passes are due to the nature of Stafford’s rifle arm. Remember when he was here guys would drop the ball quite often. In fact, I think we used to be at the top or near the top almost every year. The problem with him is everything is a 100 mile an hour fast ball and if it’s not right on target it becomes a very difficult ball to catch. I think he has to own some of that. I don’t think anyone is calling Stafford a bad player. Most Lions fans still love him. I didn’t think I would be as happy with a quarterback in Detroit once he left. Goff has changed my mind. I think he’s better. Just look at that fourth down pass to ARSB the other week. Matt does not have that throw in his arsenal.
From AI:
Matthew Stafford was reported to have the most dropped passes by a quarterback since 2012, with 143 drops, according to a 2015 PFF report. This was partially attributed to his time with the Detroit Lions, whose receivers had a high number of drops, but his receiver group in Los Angeles is more sure-handed
I would say the constant rifles for throws was early in his career. He has had nice touch throws in his arsenal for years now. The drops last night were just drops. Easy open plain old drops. Including the pitch fumble by corum. Just guys taking their eyes off it.
