Another article had the Lions with a “C” grade for off season. Why a “C”? Goff’s extension. That’s it.

I looked up the author. I won’t put much stock into the article…and I will leave it at that.
One interesting thing she said in an earlier bashing of Goff is that he can’t read a defense post snap. He can only do pre-snap reads. So he relies on Ben to draw up plays that confuse the defense so his first read is open. If its not, he’s toast.
My favorite quote from the piece -
“This has hindered the Detroit offense pretty frequently over the past few years.”
How does that compute with Detroit having a elite offense two years in a row? It’s amazing how far some people make it, with zero critical thinking capabilities.
Also, yet for some odd reason Justin Fields poor play hasnt hindered his teams offensive output. Go figure lol.

I seen this article few days ago…lol. I’m subbed to a bunch of news feeds. It’s so RIDICULOUS the stuff I see. Those click bait youtube videos are the worst. BIG TRADE JUST ANNOUNCED CONFIRMED BY DAN CAMPBELL!!!
Makes me wonder how in the world Goff was successful in LA. Because Ben Johnson wasn’t there.
I can’t begin to understand the complete lack of knowledge some people display to a national audience.

This is exactly why I don’t pay attention to the media other than to gather actual facts and stats.

Not much. I may look up stats or to see if we signed or cut or resigned someone, but, I don’t watch “sports shows” or read articles unless it’s something that someone shares on here that catches my eye.
Danni and Twentyman being the exception. They work directly for the Lions.

I’ve watched tons of plays with Goff going thru progressions and at times being able to return to #1.
but…isn’t what she said true of most QBs? a good DC will make post snap reads difficult, play a little chess game that’s where a good oline comes it to buy time for a qb to progress thru reads.
Many defenses are trying to show a different look pre-snap than their intended defensive playcall. Some more drastically than others. The QB then has to analyze what is going on and adjust. What she was saying is that if that if the first read in the pre-snap look doesn’t work…Goff panic’s and the play is essentially over. He can’t read the defense to get to his other reads. So he is completely dependent on Ben Johnson scheming stuff up where the formation flushes out the defensive playcall pre-snap and the first read is open every time. Because when it is not open, Jared gets sacked or throws interceptions.
In other words, we she is watching Jared play she assumes that the ball is always being completed to the first read. Why? Because of how quickly Goff processes information and makes the correct throw. She hasn’t reached the point in her understanding of the game to be able to see that Jared is adjusting to the post snap look and going thru his progressions that fast. And when the defense outsmarts us and Goff has nowhere to go with the football, she assumes that Goff is eating the sack or throwing the ball away because his first read wasn’t open. Again, she can’t fathom that Jared went thru all of the reads that quickly.
