Interesting how all 3 had McNeill rated higher than Onwuzurike.

Yep, I’ve heard similarly. There were some that had McNeil higher than Onwuzurike. Likely had to do with - as Brad mentioned - McNeil’s exclusive status at the nose position in this draft. Like guards, top guys there tend to be coveted in about the third round - and we know we shrifted the Eagles, at least. McNeil is likely to become a starter before LO. No shade on LO. He will be a be a Deshaun Hand type, but that can stay healthy. He has more inside rush ability than Hand. His first step, and heavy hands are impressive, and a unique combo for his position.

I think you guys are looking at it as a stand-alone. Speilman has always been reserved - always. As a player, as an announcer, as a man…how he dealt with his wife’s issues, loss on the field, success and failure - really doesn’t show emotion much. Never has.

Agree. He did get fired up at times as an announcer, but to your point, I think some of it was done for the viewers benefit. You know, doing what announcers are paid to do.

Chris sees the big picture, and the Lions will be better off because of it. He’ll get emotional when there has been a real accomplishment by the team.

Being reserved in the draft room is extremely sensible for someone in Spielman’s position. The optics could be a little strange if he was over the top celebrating … I’m sure guys like Florio would be accusing him of micro management, among other things.

The energy in the room between the coach and GM was incredible. It should be inspirational for players and fans. What more could you want for that particular time and place?

Now it’s up to the players to make it all worth while.

So much truth to all of this. Chris will be the guy who is happy and congratulating everyone other than himself, when we win the SB. His energy will say, “Of course we won, look what we’ve done here.”

*Additional note - Getting excited over a football game is very different than celebrating. It’s far more “emotionally safe” than looking at your own emotions and crediting/celebrating yourself. He gives himself permission to enjoy football games. He doesn’t give himself permission to celebrate his own success. He loves giving other ppl credit.

It’s like the “mug that has never been used”. My brother gave all his groomsmen a really nice mug of their favorite team. Upon receiving it, I said that I will only drink from it when the Lions win a SB. Thirty years later, it still has only experienced gasses and solids - no liquids. I will be drinking from it about the same time Spielman starts celebrating.//LOL.
