It’s the story of Miep Geis, the girl who hid the Frank family (Anne) during the German occupation of Holland. It was on the National Geographic channel but you can stream it on Hulu or Disney.
I’ll second The Bear and Reacher (there are two seasons now of Reacher). I did see The Boys and liked it for the most part, but it is pretty violent and has some pretty not so family friendly content. Also Extraction with Liam Hemsworth was really good too. It’s a shoot em up.
Never occurred to me that most of these streaming services only work in the US, I mean I get that paramount or Peacock won’t work and will admit a little suprised that Youtube tv doesn’t.
But very surprised that Netflix and Amazon either don’t work at all or have a very limited selection.
Edit: I’m in Barranquilla Columbia
I ended up connecting to our home server where we host tv shows and movies.
I like many of the shows already mentioned like Breaking Bad and Severance.
Gangster:
Peaky Blinders (Pro Tip: use the closed caption because its heavy “English” accents). Might be my favorite show of all time. At least in terms of the gangster genre. Lots of well done history behind the show too.
Comedy
I’m going to stick with some comedy that might not be well known to us dudes, but I’ve watched with the wife and really enjoyed:
Catastrophe on Amazon. A bit older now, so many might have watched already. Not my usual type of show but I laughed my ass off every season.
Hacks on HBO I could very much say the same thing about. Not my usual type of show but I laughed my ass off.
Glow I think this may be geared slightly for chicks, but its definitely funny and bearable as a guy. Perfect to watch with the wife after you put the kids down.
Ted Lasso for good feels.
Better on the second watch
The Leftovers I wanted to break my screen on the finale of the series, but after about five years I caught an episode again and rewatched the series. A masterpiece when you stop worrying about the mystery and invest in the characters.
Mare of Eastwood (HBO) - High quality detective story set in Philly area. I liked it the first time alright but the second time through was more enjoyable.
(Note: There was a stretch during/after Covid when there was a dearth of tv IMO…so I was recycling old stuff…)
I really need some recent stuff to watch. I feel like nothing good has come out in a while…
Life and Times of Tim on HBO is classic. It’s old but has aged well.
Newer show on HBO recently discovered is Bookie. The title is self explanatory. It’s just a fun show. You don’t have to think too much. Just turn off the brain and laugh. Doesn’t hurt that it involves the world of sports.
Yep, probably the best show that most people haven’t heard about.
On a related note, stay away from Vikings: Valhalla which is a sort of sequel to Vikings. Bland characters, bland storyline, bland actors.
I’m watching Beef on Netflix currently. Pretty good but the reviews made it seem like a masterpiece. I like but not love it although the last few episodes were great.
Ragnarok is pretty good for those who like Norse Mythology, Thor.
Sex Education is a really good British comedic series which mixes humor with some serious storylines.
Perfect ending which is an extreme rarity and the perfect music score to go with it. That’s the other thing about The Last Kingdom, like 3-4 soundtracks that are music heaven.
Yes, this is a good one. I never knew that whole story about Ray Kroc and the McDonald Bros.
Also, I probably should mention, if anybody does watch Glow, you might want to skip the 3rd season because they get away from it being funny and its starts to become a chick drama.
Watching Fargo now which I’d highly recommend as well. It would be better iff I could get my antsy easily distracted wife from making me pause it every 20 seconds…
For All Mankind on Apple+ was pretty solid and entertaining. It is an alternate history about if the US and Soviets wouldn’t have stopped the pursuit of the space race. There’s a nice mix of things that did happen and things that were changed throughout history.
