I love his analysis

I have always felt he got a bit thrown under the bus. I would be interested if players felt he was racist. He always struck me as someone who was took consumed by football to even give a carp. But who knows.

He knows the game. But I wonder if he is really a better OC than a HC.

Love his stuff. Some of the best out there.

Plenty of husbands and wives who don’t know they’re being cheated on will think their spouses are good, faithful people. Gruden probably never acted on any prejudice as a coach, but it’s what people do when they think no one is watching that reveals their true character. As a Super Bowl winning coach and one of the most respected analysts in the game, he had no need to try and ingratiate himself with anyone in the game by stooping to that level.

I think he was absolutely thrown under the bus, there were thousands of emails investigated and the only ones that saw the light of day were his, but that doesn’t excuse or dismiss the seriousness and sadness of the language that he thought he was safe to use in that company.

Haven’t ever enjoyed a sloppy white-board. Bad memories from 9-5 routine (more like 9-8). But Gruden makes it work.

Thought it was very good.

He clearly loves football and it is killing him being out of the game. His passion oozes in each of these videos.

Humans have evolved so far that we are now scared of words.

I remember as a child knowing sticks and stones will break my bones but names will never hurt me.

It was never about Gruden’s emails… He pissed somebody high up off and he was made an example of. If all emails were public…every single coach would be fired tomorrow.

By cherry picking emails and statements… You can make anyone look terrible.

Names don’t hurt, but racist and homophobic terms represent centuries of oppression and violence and absolutely should be cut out of modern vocabulary because they land and resonate in a completely different way to just calling someone a wiener or whatever. Same thing with misogyny and ableism. I learned the lesson the hard way when I dropped a casual “r*tard” into conversation with someone I care about and made her extremely upset because it reminded her of the bullying her brother suffered as a child for being in a wheelchair.

I don’t see the great sacrifice in making sure that you never use language that has the power to genuinely upset people. I wouldn’t call it a fear of words, I’d call it being a decent human or showing respect to the other people you share the planet with. But each to their own I guess.

I miss Gruden’s analysis from the booth. I’m not a fan of Romo, Brady or Aikman

While I 100% agree with the theme and thrust of your comments here. I have come to realize this idea of what words are OK to use is so silly that we really need to revert back to the sticks and stones analogy at times. That what words are OK and not OK tend to become very arbitrary and political in nature. But want to say I agree that we should always default to being kind to others as much as possible.

Just looking at the word retard.

Mongoloid, Retard, slow, special ed, and now I believe mentally disabled

My point is that they all mean the same thing only our society has deemed past labels as “degrading”. And for sure how a word is used or the tone in how it is used means a ton.

Gruden should have never used the forbidden words. Society has now deemed anyone that uses them as racist. He had a position that he was held to the highest standard so he needed to be better.
