Anyone have anything? I know there was some doubt if the injury would be season long or not. Would be awesome to get him back for a playoff run but not holding my breath as he hasn’t been mentioned and hasn’t started practice yet. Any chance for a return for him or nah?
Does anybody know the nature of his back injury? He’s been out since the beginning of Sept. Saying he won’t be back this season means he’s out of commission three months plus.
I could see if we were eliminated just letting him rest for the remainder of the season.
But if we somehow make the playoffs, they don’t start until Jan 15ish. That’s four months post surgery. Back injuries are tricky though.
@FreebirdPartDeux has it, I wouldn’t rush him back, let him heal up.
Despite Goff having time yesterday the guard play graded poorly. It’s a problem position
I think it’s likely V will be a cap casualty or asked to take a pay cut.
I’ve got no problem with that, but asking him to rush back early from back surgery if that’s the ultimate plan would be what experts in the field refer to as a “dick move”.
yup
Yea, he’s a goner unless willing to take a big pay cut. 10 mill per year for a guy who has been injured in 2 of 3 seasons just aint happening. He was very good in 2021 though.
2023 pay cut to vet. minimum, extend him 2-3 years with bonus $$ and playtime incentives that protect us but also provides him a chance to make good $$ if play warrants. Better subject for @DeadStroke to chime in on if he’s around.
Ironically, if he came back this year, he would be our sixth RG ?

Vet min might be a little much. Quinn had some horrendously bad UFA signings (Flowers, Collins, Coleman, J James, etc), but Vaitai was actually one of his better. I think going down to vet min might be a little much, as when he’s healthy, he’s more than decent. Vaitai already has some incentives for 80% and 90% play time, so we’d have to add to it.
IMO, it’s more likely that he gets cut and we go with the options that we have Tommy K, Evan Brown (if we re-sign, which if Vaitai is cut, I’d think is likely) or a late round pick).
Thanks @DeadStroke, we can always count on U! ![]()
Yep I think drafting a guard makes a lot of sense, starting around round 3 I’d be interested. Shit we got Jonah in the 3rd round for example. And then you got the guy on a rookie deal for 4 years.
I’d really really expect them to draft a OG……and high. I am really buying into the philosophy that Brad believes in that if your trenches are strong on both sides of the ball you will always be in the mix…….year in and year out.
For sure, for the guys who follow college ball closely, any stud guards out there we could put between Ragnow and Sewell!?
Torrance. OG University of Florida. Frickon Stud. Late first early 2nd grade thus far. So we have been to Florida games 6x’s everyone assumed for AR15. Could also be for Torrance and word is they do in fact love the LB miller at Florida as well. So a lot to think about. I’m more inclined it’s 1) to check out AR15 and do due diligence. 2) create speculation they want AR15. 3) LOOK AT TORRANCE AND MILLER. I’d be shocked if torrrance or miller aren’t in Detroit next spring.
We need to spend a mid-round pick on G/C.
Too many injuries at Guard this year.
Op doing an update on Hippo pootie.? OH!! Halapoulivaatai Vaitai…yeah ok lol my bad.
Halluh-hollah-puh-patty-cake-uh Vatai
\you made a statement what play you mean . I saw them have trouble with Vikes DL in the middle but overal I think they played well. That is a 10 win team they beat so there D is not weak.
One penalty on are ROG for holding was a bad call by officials just watch the play he never held.
I ask because you made a general statement without examples of bad play. You know we won? against a 10 win team.
