Imo it has nothing to do with play calling. The players aren’t executing. The wrs are getting separation. Arsb has declined. Maybe it has been related to coaching. Montgomery it believe it’s an NFL caliber wr coach. He maybe great as a rb coach.
Some of the coaches are doing too much. Fraley should focus only one OL play etc.
The GM has done a terrible job at plenishing the trenches. Brad should have been delivering talent in the area several years ago. Its very rare you see lineman 4th, 5th etc draft picks starting in the NFL day one.
The Lions talent is vastly overrated imo. Arsb is not the same receiver from last season. He’s worst.
Dan may very well feel this way and if he does, his approach publicly is the best one for the team/organization in the long-term. No way to know for sure if he actually believes what you are surmising. But by all public accounts, Dan reports to Rod/Sheila as does Brad. Their work relationship is collaborative (of course), but Dan does not report to Brad unless there is something you know that we don’t.
Even lowly Vikings dominated us . This is the truth ,Dan don’t have anybody efficient in the staff and Dan is not better than any of his current staffs. We might win few games ,it will have nothing to do with dans play calling ,it will be from the individual extra effort of Gibbs and monty ,other highly paid players are just good for celebration

Ra will likely eclipse 1100 yards and 11 plus tds again this year. He should hit 100 catches too. That’s if he misses 2 full games. He’s a top 2 WR statistically over the last 4 years, and while he has 5 drops (bum wrist?) this year, he sure hasn’t quit like JJ… should we not have paid him? He has the #7 AAV, but in reality he’s basically tied for #9 with Ayiuk and Ty Hill (a few thousand a year more- literally)
What did should Brad had done in the draft? Ignored Reader being in his final year and Mac scheduled to miss half the year? Should have have seen Deckers decline coming and gone LT in round 1 despite Decker having a 20M cap hit? Just in case? Reach for Conerly who is playing like shit? Draft Simmons despite injury risks and play him at OG, then move him to tackle?
If we took Simmons and played him at LG and mahogany at RG, we might be slightly better off… Omar Norman Lott or Darius Alexander in round 2? Alexander has a 40 grade on the year and has been a disaster outside of our mash unit letting him have his way with us.
Basically we had a 15-2 record and 7 pro bowlers going into this year. Why on earth would we expect so much regression?
You could have seen decker’s decline a couple seasons years ago. Holmes is in this situation because of the mistakes he has made in the past. He fell to get defensive backs two years ago then he had to double down the following year just to rectify that mistake. You only do the teslaa trade unless you’re farely close to contention. Holmes has failed and guys like Goff, jamo, joeseph, branch, Barnes, manu, hutch should be considered for trade at the right price. This current roster has reached it’s peak and they have to reset. Not the reset 3 years ago though
Goff is a top 5 QB- I mean only wins, stats, and leadership matter
Gibbs is at worst a top 5 RB, closer to top 1-3?
Amon Ra is a top 5 WR
Jamo is #16 in yards by a WR, he’s toed for #6 in TDs by a WR, and he’s done it with 20 or more less targets than everyone in front of him- so it’s pretty clear he’s an elite WR
Laporta will be a top 10 TE if he can come back healthy next year
Monty and Teslaa are both TD per touch machines that fit red zone and short yardage roles quite well.
Sewell and Rat are a very nice side of the OL, and Decker is still a solid LT, but having dogshit next to him is surely exposing him a bit more.
Basically get a 70 plus grade level C and 70 plus level LG next year and we are right back in business….
Hutch is a top 5-10 edge, but I’d say top 5
Jack Campbell is easily playing like a top 5 LB
Branch and Kerby are a helluva Batman and Robin…
No need to rebuild, just go really heavy OL in the draft and bring in some quality vet DL pieces. That’s it
He looked way more defeated toward the end of Season 1 when he was literally crying in the post game press confernces because the guys were trying so dang hard but not winning
Dan is the same coach he was before Ben Johnson. Ben Johnson is the same coach with the Bears as he was with the Lions. And there Teams are playing exactly like they are.
