So saw a stat. Penalties in the NFL is at an all time high.
Compare that to the total handle on betting. Interesting trend
Pre betting NFL averaged under 9% flags per play.
as sports betting took off. So has flags. Now over 11.3%!

Do we have it based on penalty? There have been more rules introduced which may explain some increase in penalties no?
Not year over year necessarily, i am more speaking to the qb rules introduced in the last 3 or 4 years plus the hip drop and also is it more presnap procedural penalties that happen early in the year.. etc
Interesting trend at least but considering sample sizes and types of penalties would be more significant imo if we are trying to correlate it with gambling pressure.
Let me look. I know the site im using has some breakdowns
Nope. No one category increases all went up evenly.
Pre snap 33-38% up and down year over year.
Offense holding 17-21% up and down
Unnecessarily roughness/ Passer 6-10% up and down
DPI/ Holding/ Illegal contact 16-20% up and down.
No correlation at all over time.
Just all categories are up over time.
Pre snap is the only one thats up from 10+ years ago.
But that doesn’t account for a 30% increase in flags
I would guess it has more to do with the nonstop additions of new penalties or “points of emphasis” that the NFL adds every year to insure the owners don’t get sued again for CTE or any other “player safety” concern.
I assume that the league will send out a memo for the refs to tone their s*** down a little bit after that ridiculous flag Fest last night. I think on one drive there were six penalties against Buffalo
Hollywood is prophetic.
