No one has reset the QB market this year which is very odd. Especially with how much the cap has gone up the since 2021
Then it was $182.5
Now $255.4m
Up almost 40%!!!
March 2022 - Watson $46m
July 2022 - Murry $46.1m
April 2023 - Hurts $51m
May 2023 - Jackson $52m
July 2023 - Hurbert $52.5m
Sept 2023 - Burrow $55m
It was always if you have a top 10qb they reset the market
But this year?
May 2024 - Goff $53m
June 2024 - Lawrence $55m
July 2024 - Tua $53.1m
July 2024 - Love $55m
Did owners get together and agree to put an end to this madness?
I don’t know, it looks like a pretty natural progression to me, with. Burrow being an outlier, which makes sense when you take a team to a couple super bowls. And Trevor Lawrence apparently has a good agent.
It will all change next year. Maybe this year, if Dak re-signs. He’s holding out for $60M/year and I bet he gets it.
But in his article about whether or not the 49ers should re-sign Purdy next year (they can’t do it until next year), Bill Barnwell predicted it would cost them $65M/year! That’s provided the cap goes up again, but I think he played it pretty conservatively.
Besides Purdy though, there’s a little window where not a lot of guys will be coming up for big deals (unless Levis or Fields takes off). You’re really looking until 2027 when Stroud and maybe AR come up, and the established vets have longer contracts. Well, except Rodgers but who knows what’s going on with him.
