My son has applied to Hillsdale. Does anyone here have any experience with Hillsdale the campus and college in a direct fashion? I am looking for feedback and viewpoints. Should I spend the money to send him there from out of state?
Its well known only for its political bent. Which is whatever, but i would be concerned about it limiting job opportunities in the future. If the HR flunky screening resumes is on the other side of the spectrum does a degree from Hillsdale route your application to the round bin?
The Heartbeats Exotic Nightclub is a great nearby bar. Two dollar Tuesday lap dances. The local talent can be a bit sketch though.
I vomited there once in '77, while visiting a friend that was a student…
As someone who paid a full year of out of state tuition for his kid, make sure you do two things: visit the campus with him if you haven’t already, and ensure he joins social groups/has a social network/has a plan to make friends/doesn’t struggle making friends. The idea of an adventure of something new can obscure reality.
77 was a vintage year for vomit. Smooth acetic tones, mildly chunky with nuance of Colt 45 and Shake n Bake
Right, he is a conservative. That’s one of the reasons he is applying there. Limiting jobs is an aspect I will have to investigate. Thanks for the feedback and I hope you are doing well.
Great points. Will do.
Yes, it will probably open some doors while slamming others shut. I don’t know if seeing Hillsdale on a resume is quite as likely to get a reaction as, say, a degree from Bob Jones.
That makes me wonder if HR or hiring managers look at an Ivy League degree and have doubts that the applicant got in by merit versus Mom and Dad cutting a giant check. Maybe they look up the school and see if there are any buildings with the same surname as your applicant?
He’s thinking about a finance degree at this time. It’s a shame a person has to be concerned about his college choice limiting an opportunity to interview. What a currently sad environment we are in.
You would hope that they’d realize they can deal with it later if this person then starts harassing their coworkers about politics. There is always some element of risk that the person will turn out to be a bad hire for whatever reason. Nobody puts “I like to show up late every morning and drink booze during my 2 hour lunch” on their resume.
That school is one of my nephew’s finalists. He’s from Bozeman and probably ultimately just goes to Montana State and joins the ski team but his grandpa would be picking up the bill regardless and he really liked it when he visited.
At this point the correct finance degree is to go become an electrician or plumber, amirite?
That’s the lane of my other son. He is trade trained but also wants to go to flight school. He wants to become a commercial pilot for Fed Ex or UPS. If that doesn’t work, he can fall back on the trades,
