I’ve mocked them Anderson plenty but I’d say the odds are still pretty heavy they go QB. Demeco may have some time to get things right but their GM is firmly on the hot seat. If he doesn’t get them a QB that gives them hope he’s almost certain to get fired.
I am torn on what I think the Texans will do. Teams tend to be more conservative with how they approach their first draft with a new regime. But in this case the GM is the same and its just the coaching staff that is new.
Last year the Texans leaned in heavy on SEC players and Alabama. I could see them doing the same thing again this year.
In two drafts, how many times has Brad Holmes traded down?
How many times has he traded up? (is the Hockenson trade considered a trade up?)
Correct me if I’m wrong…but it’s 3 (up) and 1 (down)
Holmes even made a big trade up in the 1rst round for Jamo.
Everyone wants a trade down…EVERYONE.
Going on the past tendencies of Holmes…I think it’s more probable that we trade up.
And look who is sitting right in front of us at #5. John Schneider GM of the Seattle Seahawks. Only 1 guy has TRADED down more than Schneider in the last decade (Bill Belichick). The Seahawks are ripe for the pickin’ at #5.
If we trade at all in the 1rst round…it most likely won’t be down, it will trading up 1 spot for a player that falls to #5. Jalen Carter anyone?
The biggest problem with that to me is the Seahawks have major front 7 needs. Like, their front 7 might have been the worst in football. Would they really pass on the opportunity to add one of the two elite front 7 players in the class? My hunch is they’ll tell us thanks but no thanks, just like Cincy did when we tried to trade up for Sewell.
Cincy was so determined to draft Chase that they let Joey B in on it. Joey tipped off Chase and Ja’Marr knew exactly what shoes to wear to the occasion. I think it was a partially unique position that the Bengals were in, and they chose not to overthink it and get cute.
I agree that would be a smart move for the Texans and the Lions.
There are 4/5 QBs most consider 1st rd. options. Likely 4 guys end up going top 15. The Colts and Panthers are going QB. The Texans could go BPA THEN QB. What other teams might go QB? To me the Raiders, Jets, I think the Titans and Commanders are all teams the could take a QB.
It is always fun to play the who drafts a QB game.
So the Texans are gonna pass on a franchise QB, risking he gets taken before they trade multiple 1sts just so they can get the guy they could’ve taken at 2? Yeah, I don’t like to talk with certainty often, but this isn’t happening.
If they want CJ Stroud, or any QB for that matter, they are taking him at 2 (or 1).
Now if the Texans draft a QB with their 1st pick, I can then see them moving up for another player they like. So they could be a trade partner, just not for a QB.
Yeah I agree. I think the best move for them is to take Will Anderson and BPA with the rest of their picks and take a QB next year. They are gonna suck again and with two 1sts next year, they are gonna be in prime position to get the one they want.
Man if Bryce young was just 6’2 220lbs, he is a slam dunk IMO. His size is definitely worrisome. But I wouldn’t blame them for making him their next franchise QB. Still have a lot of draft capital to build around him if that’s the route they go. I just prefer delaying it a year. Get more talent and be a little closer to competing before drafting your rookie. The more talent around him equals less chance of him busting imo.
I think pick 33 is what we would get. I think that’s probably what the Bears are gonna end up getting from them. Pick 33, a couple of day 3 picks and Brandon Cooks makes sense for both I think.
That disgusting Hail Mary to beat the Colts in week 18 changed the top of the draft a ton. Worst play I’ve seen a defense make maybe ever.
The bears are going to much improved don’t you think? I thought this too but they are gonna be bringing in some talent. And cooks contract is not exactly team friendly. From the bears perspective, he’s probably better than any FA WR available this offseason. I doubt a real contender wants to add him as their big move this offseason. Bears, Falcons, Raiders have a lot of cap space and none of those destinations seem too appealing.
Where do you suggest Cooks could be headed? I see his options being extremely limited.
“I’m sure when Cooks decided he wanted to be traded he was clearly thinking of the Bears as his preferred destination.”
You see Cooks as having much leverage in this situation? He isn’t DeAndre Hopkins
I don’t know if that’s a better spot though. Dolphins, Bills, Jets, that’s a tough division. And is Mac Jones anything special? That being said I could definitely see it.
But the Bears aren’t gonna be a dumpster fire after this offseason and draft imo. It’s gonna be the most improved roster I think.
