Barry ran in I-formation quite a bit at OK state….
and I wish Lions had utilized more power run scheme in his time.

It made for great highlights. It also made for a lot of 3rd and 11, 3rd and 12 situations. It was a zone scheme without true lanes. It counted on Barry to run 20 yards a play to gain 4-5 and break/dodge 3-5 tacklers along the way. We were running those draws because we were in long yardage situations too often. The greasiest player to ever play the game and never went to the Super Bowl. Again I loved Barry but man did we do a poor job of utilizing him to his potential.
It’s like they used Barry to make a mess of things to make everyone else’s job easier, instead of building around Barry.
That zone blocking and wideout formations spread the field like crazy, but it felt more chaotic than orchestrated. Flip Barry & Emmit and I think Sanders goes for 150+ yards/game, probably on fewer carries. lol
Weeze is right - the stacked boxes make It very hard for OL, for sure…
Lack of QB talent and the passing attack being good, not great, make keying on the run a no brainer for opposition.
I totally agree! The scheme was so bad they had to switch Barry out for
Schlesinger in short yardage and goal line situations or risk losing yards. The greatest back in the history of the game was taken out during the most critical moments of a game! It’s insane and used to make me crazy lol.
I agree with the stacked box. We never had the support around him to make it work.
Couple little things.
I remember it being said that Special Teams Coordinators across the Big 12 breathed a collective sigh of relief when Thurman Thomas declared for the NFL, because they knew they would no longer have to face Barry returning kicks. Meanwhile, the defensive Coordinators began having ulcers.
Everytime I see a back that reminds me of Barry, I like to go back and look at Barry and realize my minds playing tricks on me.
I think Barry could have challenged 2700 yards in a season with that Dallas oline.
I think it’s very possible that if healthy, 12 years with the Dallas O-line (or 14 in Detroit) and we’d be talking about the only player to ever rush for 20k yards in their career.
I’ve missed him immensely every game since he retired.
I want to watch the Lions with a good running back to stays healthy so badly.
I think Barry could have challenged 2700 yards in a season with that Dallas oline.
I think if SNL ever revived the superfans sketch they would need to make it about a bunch of lions fans talking about how many yards barry would have gotten behind the dallas oline
think Barry could have challenged 2700 yards in a season with that Dallas oline.
Nuh uh, Barry behind that offensive line could have been the NFL’s only 3k yard rusher. No joke.

I think so too but I was trying to keep my testicle size in check.
@Cynodon , don’t care if others think I’m wrong. If you put him in the league today he is still embarrassing entire defenses in one fail swoop. Doesn’t matter who is on the other side.
5 bucks in Bangkok 10 years ago!
tried so hard to make a joke out of this.
lol u better stay calm, wait til u see what I bought in Phuket and Krabi
Last jersey I actually bought… 5 bucks in Bangkok 10 years ago!
Different kind of “business decision” than we typically discuss on a football forum……
Barry was one of the greats but I stop short of saying best ever,. With all his moves and greatness he was never a good short yardage back,
Could you imagine Barry behind our current OL?
He’d probably rush for 2400 yards with a chance to break OJ’s 143 yard per game average and/or surpass Dickersons 131 yards per game average.
