How long is Aaron Glen's leash: It turns out it's 0 games

This is a callback. So many people were talking down Glen and may need to already eat some crow.

First off, everyone knows the D won us that game.

Second, Glen doesn’t know X and O’s! He took the team known for man coverage and had them SECRETLY training for zone coverage for the Chiefs, which they had very little answer for.

Mahomes did make some plays with his legs, but nothing catastrophic. And we even employed a spy on select plays (Anzalone).

Sure the Chiefs had some bad drops but we were dominant on all the other third downs too.

That zone, and Hutch breathing down his neck all night I think maybe took Mahomes off his game a bit, Though you will never hear that from the talking heads.

I absolutely believe Toney saw Brian Branch’s huge hit from the preseason…many of his drops branch was right there to crush him. He was in his head…

Mahomes did Mahomes things but we limited the damage really well. The coverage was good in general and he didn’t hurt us too badly when he scrambled. Overall a very good showing from the D.

Good catch. I also have a feeling CJGJ thoroughly reminded Toney about the drops every time he was within ear distance. Whether our doing or not, Toney’s head was not in that game.

I’ve mentioned a few times zone is better against mobile qbs so I was glad to see that. The secondary will continue to improve with more communication.

The defense has a chance to be a game changer. Hutchinson looks on a different level this year. He might be one of the best defensive players in the league. He’s at a level I didn’t know he could get to.

Some head scratchers for me was how much playing time Charles Harris got. He looked underwhelming most of the game. He did have a clutch qb pressure drawing a holding penalty at the end of the game though. I hope to see Romeo activated and receive some snaps.

Jones looks more like a situational player that should only be brought in short yardage situations and goaline packages.

It also looked like Houston was dropping back in coverage for half his snaps. I get doing it once in awhile to throw the defense off but it was way to often.

Defense held when they needed to and Glenn deserves all the credit for making the proper adjustments. “Dominant on all the other third downs”? Only in the 2nd half. 1st half Chiefs were 5 for 7. Again–give Glenn credit for adjusting.

That still doesn’t mean the incessant miscommunication in the secondary can’t be talked about. It has been a constant under Glenn, but I think this new crew can get it fixed. If not, that’s a huge issue going forward.

I just watched part of the replay and Ceedy Duce didn’t even let Isaiah Pacheco limp off the field with an injury without getting in his ear about it. Pacheco was trying to limp and bark back at CJGJ at the same time.

Be Quiet Season 2 GIF by Martin

Interesting thread. The Lions won this game (a game they would usually lose) because wide open WRs kept dropping the ball

Oh thank goodness, I thought you were asking how long his leash was?

WR’s running wide open against A Glenn’s defense. I’m not going to anoint him yet, are you?

No, I’m not throwing him in the ring of honor yet or anything, however:

That statement infers that was the singular reason the Lions won and I’m not getting anywhere near that, hence the GIF.

I think the main thing was likely that he missed all of training camp and the preseason with a leg injury, and barely made it back in time for this game. Understandable that his timing and rythm would be off.

That said, its entirely possible that he is just not good at catching footballs. He got drafted off his physical potential, and the Giants have up on him rather quickly. He has shown flashes of being a playmaker with the ball in his hands, but cant stay on the field. Hes hasnt shown great route running or catching skills, maybe he never turns potential into production.

I honestly didn’t think the secondary was very good. A team with good WRs will roast them if they keep playing soft zone. Hopefully a better showing next week because the Seahawks have 3 studs. They won’t drop the ball. Saw some promising signs from the DEs. IDL looked awful. Anzelone stinks. Lots to clean up and I think that effort will get them 35 put on them next Sunday. Hopefully the crowd can help out a bit.

I just want to be sure I understand what you are saying. Patrick Mahomes had wide open receivers and chose not to throw them the ball. He kept running around because he wanted to see how long those receivers could stay open?

I think that’s kind of the point. As the OP said, this is a team generally known for playing man. If Glenn had them working on Zone, #1 you can thank Kelce for that (rightfully so) and #2 there was ONE chance to use it. Game 1 because you can bet the Chiefs watched a lot of tape from last year and were expecting man. They didn’t adjust and the Lions got away with it. And NOW Seattle has to focus on both. A nice little bonus that comes out of the shift for this game.

I could be wrong but I think you will see a complete shift to a predominately man-scheme when the Seahawks come to town.

ok–Mahomes isn’t a bad QB I’d argue he’s top 3 , but that game is over and we beat him and his team----Seahawks are on the menu right now-and we better have our shit all healed up and prepared for another war !!
