Josh McDaniels would! haha he took Tebow in the 1st round. He couldn’t throw the ball more than 12 yards.
And even Tebow managed to be a significantly more accomplished passer with a much higher completion percentage than AR. ![]()

I look at running ability as a massive aid in transitioning from the college to the pro game. You needn’t be a refined passer on day one, if you can compensate by extending plays and drives with your feet. As you age, that ability declines, and you’ll need to transition toward being a better passer.
How bad would Chicago be if Fields weren’t a running threat? A weird thing to say about a last place team, but offensively they could be much worse.

Those are Stafford’s overlapping stats with Tebow during their common years. He was a significantly more accomplished passer than Stafford too in college. Didn’t make him a better pro though did it?

Stafford was also a significantly more accomplished passer than AR. Thanks for pointing that out.
Maybe this is a good comp…Denard Shoelace Robinson!

Goal post move!

I wasn’t pointing that out. Its obvious. What I was pointing out is, again, stats do not tell the whole story when you project a player’s NFL capability. Which is why AR is getting first round consideration.
Thank you!!!
Thank you!!!
The thing we don’t seem to understand is that you can’t judge a player by stats or game film or anything like that. We just need to believe.

I believe that AR is this years overhyped project QB. Last year nobody took the bait. But this is a new year and we’re 1 more year removed from the failed QB class of 2021.
Although I do think Malik Willis was a wasted 3rd round pick. We got Kerby Joseph in that round.
We got Kerby Joseph in that round.
HUGE!
sure am glad we have Holmes.
This a goal post moving debate if I have ever seen one!
Why not go back and take a look at Eli Manning, Phil Rivers, Erin Rodgers, Matt Ryan, Matt Stafford, Carson Palmer, and even the “proto type” Andrew Luck… There wasn’t a SINGLE season with 40 passing TDs even once between them… Most had a season with at least 10-12 ints as well…
Why?
The same reasons why guys like Brees, Brady, and even Peyton Manning had a combined “2 seasons” with more than 35 TDs in their fist 30 combined years as starting QBs!!!
Back then it was about big arm, big frame, pro style offense… No that you can’t hit QB’s and teams are running shotgun spreads, it’s more common for “system QBs” to be drafted early and succeed…
- The problem with Richardson is that he didn’t rush for 1,400 yards and 20 TDs, and toss another 20-30 like Cam Newton and Lamar… His college career actually pretty closely mirrors Daniel Jones-
I just don’t understand the “he can make all the throws” adoration of QBs? From my perspective, he often fails to make the easy throws…
If Goff and Richardson both attempt 30 passes in week 1… I bet one guy completes 20 plus passes and the other around 17… The fact of the matter is that you can’t have a 54% completion percentage if you can make all the throws…
I’m a pretty decent golfer that carries it about 272-275 with Driver… I also laugh when guys talk about driving the ball over 300 yards… Sure- maybe downhill, downwind, with hard fairways, and maybe 2-3 out of 14 actually go that far… It’s the other 10-11 that are in the water, woods, sand, trees, topped, sliced, and went no more than 225 yards from the tee that are better indication of why the person is a 20 handicap…
I would prefer my partner put it in the fairway 250 on 11 of 14 holes than hitting it 300 a few times and taking 5 penalty strokes…
- I could care less if there are 3-4 throws Goff isn’t capable of making that Richardson, Stafford, or Allen are… I simply care about how many yards, on how many attempts, with how many turnovers, and how often we win…
I just don’t understand the “he can make all the throws” adoration of QBs? From my perspective, he often fails to make the easy throws…
HE CAN MAKE ALL THE THROWS!
He just can’t complete them.

Its almost like you don’t understand the concept of developing a QB. Perhaps that is why we don’t see eye to eye.
No I don’t… Just like I didn’t think Darko nor Seko Doumbouya would develop into basketball players…
You don’t give a guy 32MM because he can run fast and throw hard, and hope you can teach him to layer passes, read defenses, and consistently throw with touch…
The funny thing is that by year 2-3 of “running the ball at QB” the injuries start to creep in, and teams start asking said QB not to run… Then critics start to speculate if not running will make said QB less effective…
Back to my original post- how many guys run the ball for 800-900 plus yards a year and have a ring or two?
We could debate about particular prospects like Richardson. But you stand for the proposition that QBs can’t be developed?
Josh Allen had a 55% completion rate in college and now throws for 63% in the pros. How do you explain that?

An outlier.
Going to 17 games was stupid let alone 18. I agree that’s probably going to happen but it really hurts the overall product on the field IMO. Todays football guys sit for precaution/conservative reasons with long term outlooks. More games is just going to encourage that more. The last thing the league needs is a load management league like the NBA. The importance of every game when playing 16 can’t be overstated. Even though it doesn’t sound like much.

Agreed completely! But the owners only care about 1 thing.

Matthew Stafford was a 57% completion rate in college, the past two years he is at a 67% clip. Career avg 63%. How do you explain that improvement from college to the pros if QBs aren’t developed by the teams that draft them.
