I’ve seen this before

In the 90s, we would have a great year and the next year we would get a first place schedule and be straight trash. This year we will finish close to 500 and we may not win division or playoff game if this pedestrian O and secondary continue. Hutch won’t have 4+ sacks every game and the opposing secondary won’t keep dropping 3 INTs per game.

Thus far, the offense is, not that good. The secondary continues to be, not that good. Goff has thus far regressed. It’s like this team is out of shape and hasn’t played together before. Both of which are not true! The Bucs lost so many good players and just dominated our O. Baker looks like twice the QB Goff is. I’m dumbfounded about why this team looks so bad. It’s concerning.

Defense looks considerably better, offense is very concerning though

I have said it before, and will say it again… Goff is an average QB that has the benefit of an incredible o line

And that o line is struggling massively in pass pro, dunno what is going on but defenses figuring out to shut down the middle of the field ain’t helping

much like last year, I’m nit going to judge them on losses. I’m going to judge them on how they bounce back from losses

now if they start 1-3, yeah, we might have a cocaine wayne season on our hands

Looks like some people are having a hard time losing the SOL mindset.
We had an off day against a good team, it’s going to happen to all teams, it won’t be our last off game either. I expect 4 more off games.

Reason I came up with post would you rather have a 1992 season with a chance to draft a HOF player like they did in 1992 before trading the pick.

Or

10-7 WC 1 and done

Red Zone…the Lions had twice the number of yards as TB…twice the number of turnovers…and more time of possession.

You can boil the loss down to crappy red zone offense and bad QB decisions.

And maybe you can boil crappy red zone down to crappy QB play.

I am not a Goff hater but he has not looked very sharp or on point.

And lets also remember that the Lions could be suffering a bit of a hangover from last season. I try to grade the team in chunks of 4 games. But right now QB play has been poor. And maybe that is the play calling. But the INTS or dropped INTS have been extremely concerning. Goff seems almost distracted if that is even possible.

Good post. That’s pretty much how I feel about it.

This game deserves alot of the criticism that it is getting, but it doesn’t mean the entire season is lost.

It’s just one game.

This team has alot of talent, we will win alot of games, Jared shit the bed he knows it and will do better. We seen him play well

Jared is not going to look sharp when both St, Porta. and monty seem dinged up. Jamo was meh vs Tampa, and so was Gibbs…all this said, I expected more out of Goff-but, when your best players are ‘off’ or somewhat injured-it’s not going to be good, hell they barely used LaPorta vs Tampa, and our playcalling was suspect.

Agreed, we are going through the yearly Goff slump rn (The Goof Slump?) where he plays like shit for like a couple games then gets back to playing solid football

Oline needs to be better in Pass Pro though, feels like they have been questionable so far through two games, and bad showing against a Cardinals Defense missing two of its best Dline pieces should sound the alarm bells on the unit.

I dont even think people are injured outside of Sun God. Monty has looked fine, Laporta has looked okay whenever he gets the ball.

Gameplanning and Oline have been off the past two games, We arent establishing the run game at all for the PA passes that Goff loves, and its hurting us badly. Even if they take away the middle of the Field, Raymond and Jamo, hell even ARSB and Laporta should be targeted deep on posts and go routes if defenses are doing that.

We are going away from whats working, and what makes the offense click at the moment.

Tampa did seem to get pressure up the middle more than I reall in the past.
Then when Vita went out we kept running to the side, made no sense.

Goff’s safety blanket is gone. He has to find a new one. LaPorta, Jamo, Isaiah. Someone will become that guy.
Brunell will settle him.

Only one team in history went undefeated.

All of the Patriot dynasty Bill & Brady teams lost games, even in the years they won Super Bowls.

I don’t think it is time to climb out on the ledge yet.

All that said, I won’t be surprised if we don’t live up to the hype and don’t go as far as last year. I certainly won’t be surprised if we don’t win the Division. The Sam Darnold Vikings just beat the 49ers and are 2-0.

I hope the offense gets on track.

I don’t understand why we are out of sync when we have the same players and coaches from last season.

It’s not even that imo. It’s a whole lack of perspective on the type of league the nfl is

Even in a bad season , this team and ownership imo doesn’t feel like any previous Lions team.

We’ve been a bit spoiled by Dan in that the team improvement has mostly been with a steady arrow up and a few mild bumps

But that’s also not exactly how the nfl works either. The improvement isn’t always steady. Good organizations can end up with an off year.

Fans should go back and look at the bills schedule last season and see how they started and how it ended.

I think it’s several things. First, it’s a new OL, what with Zeitler in at RG and Glasgow moved to LG. It’ll take a few games for them to get their chemistry. And the WR assignments have shifted as well.

Second, I think the offense has been taking a piece-meal approach. The intentions look more like “get Jamo involved” or “get Ra his touches” than a systemic dismantling of the defense in front of us.

Speaking of which, third, I think defenses may be confounding Goff. If they’re getting better at disguising when they’re in man versus when they’re in zone, that’s a whole extra level of complexity for Goff to deal with. The Packers were doing this effectively against us on Thanksgiving. He’s not getting what he’s expecting, and it’s flustering him.

  1. time off
  2. adding plays that still have wrinkles in 'em (need to iron out)
  3. adding players - gelling/meshing,
  4. knocking out rust
  5. teams adjusting to how we showed up last year
  6. timing w/jamo still not 100%
  7. implementing Gibby in different ways, etc

I think a big part is the Rams and Bucs just played us in the playoffs… Both those defenses have prepared for the Lions offense a lot…shit we have played the Bucs 3 times in the past 10 months.

Now if the offense struggles again vs the Cards that would be a concern for sure.
