If you can’t see that she is handling things differently then I would suggest widing your view. If she isn’t happy with the result people get fired. She basically just put both Quin and Patricia on notice. Though many may not be happy with giving them another year, I for one do not have a problem with that happening. Now if next year the Lions are where there are now then I am sure heads will roll, unlike her husband.
Being ahead in games is meaningless, the only time it’s worth having a lead is when the clock hits 0:00 in the fourth. Anyway, if we lost a lot of games from a winning position, how is that meant to be a good thing???
They shouldn’t have bothered with this letter, just announce they’re staying and don’t take the fans for idiots with this crap.
If Marta wanted to put them on notice she could just tell them both to their faces, and not excuse them for their failures while she’s doing it.
She’s fine with losing. You can get to this point in different ways – sure, Mr Ford was a lot more circuitous, but the destination was always the same IMO.
I don’t agree. She’s already given them a number of outs for next year by not even mandating playoffs as the expectation.
If I could sum up the letter in a word, that word would be “laughable”. Condescending fodder written in lawyer speak then signed like a bill for care given.
Thank you for clarifying. And I agree with your sentiments. I was absolutely okay if they replaced both of them but I’ve stated multiple times that I did not feel that was going to be the case
Been a long time since I have read messages from some of the most knowledgeable Lions fans. I have missed the chatter all season. I wondered where everyone went and am glad to find a lot of familiar names here.
The letter is about what you would expect. I had a feeling Quinn and Patricia would be back. As painful as it is based on this season I was willing to give them 1 more year. I watched Patricia’s presser today and it looked like he might have trimmed up the beard. He obviously met with Martha (and did some serious ass kissing) or rubbed the bunions and was told to go ahead and tank to get the best draft pick possible since you ONLY HAVE 1 YEAR to prove yourself. The roster moves kind of tell when the meeting occurred.
Look… if we see this dismal result again next year it is time for a new regime. Stafford will be at the end of his deal and our poor record will get us a shot at a 1st round QB to pair with his new coach.
I do worry about the win or else ultimatum. It can lead to some bad decisions or work out well. Based on what we have seen from “the brass” the bad decision part is the safest bet.
That’s my concern too. If it is a mess next year then they are gone, but if they are truly competitive only to get screwed in the playoffs again (I know this could never happen ) I think they need to be careful not to make an arbitrary decision based on an ultimatum.
So… I like the non-specific ultimatum and we will see how it plays out.
So what happens if the injuries pile up again next year? What if Stafford gers hurt half way through the season? Say he goes down and we’re 6-2 and end up 7-9, do they get another year since Stafford got hurt again? What if they beat all the bad teams but lose to the good teams and end up 8-8 and one game out of the playoffs? This letter leaves so much wiggle room it’s ridiculous. I can’t wait until I get the call to renew my season tickets and I lay into them about all of the BS this organization puts its fans through and why I’m not re-upping
…not to be argumentative, but it’s not really any sort of revelation…every single team in the league does the exact same thing when things aren’t going well.
Being the 6th best team out of 16 should never be removed from expectations. We need to stop making excuses a year beforehand. Fans here are pushovers.
The letter is meaningless and had no effect on me, but then again, I’ve been pretty much apathetic since the refs screwed the Lions in the Packers game.
Pretty sure that letter was written by her husband decades ago. They just pull it out, dust it off, change a name here and there and send that shitburger onto their customers.
Not 1 discernable difference between her terrible tenure as an owner and her husband’s. Seamless transition of crap.
