Barring an injury or character issue that comes out of nowhere I can’t imagine that happening.
I would imagine that at least 2 if not 3 of:
Young, DDS, Jacas, Moore
But which flavor? The first two are going to be three down contributors but likely leave you wanting a bit more on third down. Jacas and Moore are too guys that I believe in as pass rushers but they need to be better in the run game to play full time for us. They have the traits to be better in the run game.
This point is critical: we could not run the ball V. division opponents late last season with the playoffs on the line. Cade Mays will help. Increased competition on the interior will help.
That also makes me think Kayden Proctor might in the mix for Brad. We gotta run the ball and stop the run. The Vikes embarrassed us in December. That cannot happen again.
One high draft pick finishes this OL…but which one? What guy?
This isn’t true, you have no idea if one guy finishes this o line, no one know how the LG position will turn out. These same assessments were thrown around last year, I don’t know how many times I was told we would be fine.
Cade Mays, Tate Ratledge, Penei Sewell, Christian Mahogany, Juice Scruggs, Larry Borom, Miles Fraser, Seth McLaughlin, Manu, Colby Sorsdal and others. Add a top rookie OT to this group and I love the short AND long term potential of these guys.
Losing Decker sucks but damn, he is still a free agent. That is powerful. He was a starter here now no one wants him. Maybe it is a $ thing but it feels like a health issue to me.
If we get a top OT, yea, this group IS good. Deep. Options.
I can see Decker resigning. I believe we asked him for a pay cut and he said I am worth more. They said ok we will give you your release and see what the market will be willing to pay BUT allow us to at least match it. Other teams are probably seeing that as a big possibility too and would make him an offer but it would be low based on health/age. knowing the Lions may still have interest but at a lower rate they won’t even make him an offer.
That doesn’t rule out drafting an OT in round one but certainly opens up options.
I get where you are coming from but they saved 11.6M by cutting him. The “dead money” dollars were spent either way. If he comes back at anything less than 11.6M didn’t we save money?
