For those of you all that don’t know, I have an older brother with essentially non-verbal autism. I’m studying at Alabama as a pre-med to become a doctor who treats the biological symptoms of special needs conditions like autism, and to do plenty of research on my own.
If you want to see something super cool that I’ve been building for the past year plus, send me a PM. You won’t regret it. You’re also free to send me a PM if you just want to see what I’m working on.
I know we have a few parents here, some of whom I’ve spoken to before, and one of whom I’ve already sent this to.
And no, I’m not trying to sell something to anyone. It’s a link to a website I built and everything on said website is free.
My wife works in special education, and we have family members with various needs. Thank you for your work, and if it is in your heart, it would be great to have you stay on this path. You can make a world of difference in this way.
Truth is----I have a Grandson that is Autistic he can now say a few clear words but he’s in a program already. a couple years ago, all he could do is make some sounds that I can only say made sense to him, maybe God. right now he plays his tablet and still makes awkward sounds and rocks back and fourth swinging his little arms, but he’s making progress, thanks to all that’s right and holy.
Have you considered linking up with speech-language pathologists in your area? I assume you may have already, but they would very likely be a great resource for you/opportunity for expansion. My wife is an SLP, and works regularly with AAC users in the school setting. There are several organizations, and many school districts/county ISDs have an AAC consultant that interfaces with the different schools. You may be thinking more on the health care side of things, but users in the school space are always looking for good solutions for their students.
Again, you probably already thought through this, but I got excited when I saw the specifics of what you are working with!
I have thought about it, but this particular app isn’t necessarily my end goal. The Voice app, whenever that comes out, is going to completely change the game for everybody. It’s a phenomenal idea that I’m not willing to share yet because I don’t want some big tech company to steal it. Once that comes out then I’ll probably get in touch with whoever I need to.
As you can sort of tell if you read the “about” page, I’m very fortunate to be pretty well connected with basically whatever profession I need in Huntsville regarding autism “treatment” through my parents’ work with the Foundation, so I’ll get in touch with someone if need be at that time.
As a retired educator married to a retired special education teacher/administrator you blew us away with this. I shared it with her and she is spreading the information to her community of special education professionals. Well done!
As an idea, specifically for those of you that are connected to this world, would you guys think about having some sort of discussion board on there that professionals and parents could use to connect with others around the country/world to talk about whatever relevant topics they wanted to?
