I'll admit it.... I care more about winning the Division than a SB right now-

Not a particularly hidden revelation or unusual stance for someone to like one QB more than another.

Stafford lost me after 2013. I said mid season that if Goff finished this year the way Stafford finished that year I’d be the first to call for his replacement. Finishing the way he did was impressive - I’m team Goff unless he wets the bed here.

I will say that Goff has done more here with less-on-the-field talent around him than cough cough any of the previous QB’s…but Goff was also a better prospect coming out than any QB this year.

Nobody wanted to see them in the playoffs last year either, for that matter.

Well we had a top 5 rated QB last year, he’s popular with his teammates, knows the system, and is entering his prime….

Since Goff has gotten farther than J Allen, Watson, Kyler, Herbert, or Lamar… and as far as Burrow or Hurts through 3 years…. It’s hard to say he’s “not capable…”

So replacing him with a guy more likely to end up like Darnold, Mac Jones, or Z Wilson than Burrow seems like a fools errand……

  • if we signed J Hargrave or D Payne- then nobody would be talking about Carter.

  • if we signed Bradberry and Sutton, we wouldn’t talking about Witherspoon

We are talking about QB when there is only 1 ball, and we have 28 year old Pro Bowl QB

Guaranteeing that Carter, Branch or Porter are all going to be elite if the Lions draft them?

You don’t want to draft a QB because you like Goff, no problem.

But that sure doesn’t mean whoever else they choose will be elite.

I agree that QB is in play, but don’t think Goff not having an extension has anything to do with it.

Never mind didn’t read the whole thread and didn’t realize it had gone into the usual supsects going after each other in a Goff thread.

You mean like coming out and saying Goff is our Guy like both the GM and Coach said.

No that doesn’t mean nothing, it must mean more because there doing do diligence to some QBs trying to keep smoke flying.

I think the ones being duped is the guys actually believing we will take a QB that high. Holmes is doing a good job I mean he has most this place fooled already.

I hope you are right, and tend to agree…nicely put!

KingSlappy- why do I have to guarantee that Carter or Witherspoon are elite?

Tell me where I’m losing you here…

Jared Goff is a 28 year old Pro Bowl level QB with winning playoff experience that fits our culture, scheme, and is under contract here… Goff threw more tds as a junior than Richardson and Levis combined last year, and then he’s carried that into the NFL, and now he’s done it here…

  • I have literally never seen any NFL player so accomplished, but so questioned… Everyone wants to point out what Goff did in 2019 and 2020 in LA in an impossible situation… 3,950 yards with 20 TDs and 13 TDs in 15 games with a buster throwing hand… That is the season that created the scrutiny?

  • why haven’t I read shit in here about how badly Stafford sucked last year? Why doesn’t anyone care that Stafford’s 2 years in LA were 102 and then 87 ratings at 33 and 34 years old… Why didn’t Goff get the same pass at 23-24? Kirk Cousins has been better without McVay, and what happens this year when McVay goes 8-9 and Stafford has another sub par season?

  • My problem with drafting a QB is that we already have one of the best QBs in the league… We don’t an elite DT, and elite DE2, an elite LB, an elite RG, an elite RB, and elite TE, an elite CB1/2…

Common sense would suggest that a QB who is entering his prime, and has proven capable of making a SB run while playing near an MVP level is a far surer thing than a pair of guys who couldn’t throw 25 TDs or win 9-10 games in college…

We have Buggs, Moseley (with an ACL), Brock Wright, Romeo Okwara, K Raymond, and Jerry Jacobs all slated to get significant snaps in our starting lineup right now… Don’t get me wrong there are some solid players there, and they have all proven to be excellent value- but none are IDEAL starters… None were drafted… None have recorded a single 75 PFF rated season…zero…

Then we have Anzalone, Rodrigo, Big V (back), J Reynolds, McNeill, Comish, W Harris, and James Mitchell as another as another tier of guys we expect to take significant snaps as mid to late round picks who again… have ZERO recorded PFF season of 75 between them…

  • So yes I would count on Jack Campbell, Jalen Carter, D Witherspoon, C Gonzalez, B Branch, Bijan, Jaxson Smith Njigba, Drew Sanders, Darnell Washington, Sam La Porta, AT Perry, Darnell Wright, Peter Skoronski, Adebawore, Kancey, K Benton, J Gibbs, S Avila etc all as guys who likely have higher floors and much higher ceilings than many I listed above…

I am talking about replacing undrafted free agents with unanimous first round prospects with elite production and ras scores?

Thank God you didn’t root for Marino or Favre then….because they had melt downs too….but they bounced back, as did Stafford and even Goff had had a melt down in LA….but he has bounced back.

^^^

were they as bad as 2013? We had the division handed to us. Look up the stats for the last several games against bad teams no less

This was the only season I ever rooted AGAINST the Lions, because I was begging for our coach to get fired.
We can pretend that leadership doesn’t matter & stare at stat sheets…not gonna change the fact that we had incompetence at all levels from water boy to ownership, of course with some talent sandwiched in the mix.

It takes a LOT to win in the NFL.
Barry couldn’t overcome it…how in the ■■■■ could anyone else?

Stafford would have CRUSHE D it in this scenario. Like Record-setting type crushex it.

They were worst

why were you begging for Schwartz and Linehan to be fired during the season? We started the season 6-2 and we’re only a few years removed from 0-16

all we had to do was beat one bad team down the stretch to clinch the division. spoiler alert: we didn’t. and it wasn’t because of coaching or leadership. Stafford was raw awful

They didn’t start 6-2….they were actually 5-3 after 8 games

I randomly happened upon this old post of yours and felt like sharing. I erased the names because they are irrelevant to the discussion. This is from October 2021 leading up to the 2022 draft. If you flip the 2nd round LB to DT/DE you would have been a perfect 5 for 5 on what Holmes actually did in the draft. Incredible.
