On Daniel Jones
“Everyone makes individual choices. I think we’re all, at points in our career, faced with different challenges. I faced them in college – some things didn’t go the way I wanted, but the people that mattered the most to me were the guys in the locker room,” he said.
“I showed up every day – I didn’t care if they asked me to be the scout team safety, scout team quarterback, I was gonna do whatever I could to help the team win.”
He mentions from college through the pros however one thing he isn’t considering …
his situations were much better than Jones making it easier to decide to stick especially if considering his pro career. He landed in a great spot. Following Bill Billicheck was a good idea
No way Brady was playing on the damn scout team in the NFL. Him & Billy would have been fist fighting on the sideline if he tried to make him do that shit.
I get where he is coming from but your not doing that type of crap when you make 40m/year to be the starting QB. Jones is bad but it’s pretty humiliating to make him play defense.
Agree
Tom was in a pretty unique situation. He didn’t come in as a top pick so had no leverage to rock the boat
Then when he had leverage
He was surrounded by the best organization making good decisions
That’s nothing like Barry or Calvin faced for example
Im not saying Jones is good tho but I am saying he also seems to have had little chance to be good. He did get paid tho.

His rookie season, Tom barely made the team as the 3rd string QB. Running the scout team is what the 3rd string QB does.

I think he entered camp as the 4th QB.

This is accurate, they kept 4 on the roster his rookie year bc he was “too good to risk losing”
Once he was a starter he was never demoted to the scout team QB
I just think it’s not fair of TB to state it that way when he never had to deal with organizational failures
From those making the big decisions.
If Brady never was given a chance
- would he have stayed fine being QB2 fir the career ?!Hooker might face that
No, different story than Jones, but as @WestCoastLionsFan pointed out, Brady was the 4th string QB entering preseason his rookie season, he busted his ass and played himself into 3rd string and did what it took and was asked of him. New England did not know what they had in Brady when they drafted him or during his rookie season when he was the 3rd string QB or when they signed Bledsoe the next season to a record contract. Hard work by Brady achieved that all that.
Robert Kraft is notoriously cheap, but he stumbled onto a great coach and a great QB that covered up the flaws in the organization.
Perhaps. I thought he spent. Got a new stadium built and got patriots to the forefront. His coach selections have been good if you think of parcells ( I think ) but definitely with Pete Carrol and Bill B
The point though in Tom’s criticism that bothers me is not that Tom didn’t have to work and gain trust , perform etc …
He was led by competency and unless one thinks the giants coaches are great or GM is great , how much success could jones have ?
We’re seeing all the giants QBs fail …
I think that’s particularly tough in nfl where bad teams and orgs still get a chance to draft hall of fame talent and then the player is more or less stuck
Or labeled with opinions such as Tom’s on Jones or some lions fans on Barry or Calvin maybe slay …selfish non team players etc
Thank goodness lions aren’t looking to be that franchise anymore
