Must be like when I overshot an exit on a road trip once, decided to just get off at the next one, and then found myself driving around East St. Louis at midnight. Oh fug.
I’m noticing that the Welcome Back to the Den banner doesn’t load immediately – the rest of the page renders first, then we get the banner, which pushes down the content that rendered first. As a result, I’m often in the process of clicking a subject thread, only for the content to scroll down before I’ve clicked the mouse, leading to a different subject thread getting selected. It’s also just visually jarring – the thread title text I’m reading suddenly jumps down the page.
Now, is there a way to load the page such that it starts having already scrolled past the welcome banner, to the beginning of the first subject? I don’t need to see the welcome banner at all, at all – I always want to start with the subject threads. The banner takes up an awful lot of space, especially on mobile, so it takes a bit of scrolling to get past it. (On the desktop, it isn’t such an issue because I can at least see the pinned threads on initial load.)
Branding & identity is still relevant for regulars! But I’ve tightened up the mobile view. Let me know if that’s better. And I’m sure there will be other optimizations along the way.
