No you don’t. Because there were guys who consistently competed 60% or better in that era. Elway’s completion percentage is attributed to the way he played. Same as Cam or any other QB

It’s very interesting, when Cam got cut in Carolina a lot of people assumed that the Chargers were the best fit for him. But now the Chargers got their franchise QB in Herbert. It always interesting how certain things turn out.
Out of the top 100 single season completion percentages, only 14 were before 2000 (and 9 of those were by either Steve Young or Montana. The game has changed and now relies on the short passes or dump offs to RBs.
Elway played in the same system as Montana and Young in the 90s and he still had sub 60% completion percentages. Again, its the player and the way they play.
