Is Glenn the best defensive coordinator in football?

No matter how you do this, the higher payroll teams will ALWAYS be punished as they can rank no higher than #1 — so they can never have a positive spread :person_shrugging:

5th youngest defense in the league.

6-2. Don’t care how or when or why. We have a chance.
AG and Ben J will definitely interview for head coaching jobs. The better we finish, the more likely both are gone. In steps Shepard and Heiden.

If you use DVOA, which has been shown to be more predictive of wins in a season, the Steelers rank 7th in defense, right ahead of us. Yards can be very misleading.

Why not just make a Glenn voodoo doll and start poking it with offensive player dolls from chargers?

This thread essentially did that to us

Our D got exposed a bit today, but luckily we won.

Go fix it!

We need Houston back with a quickness. Hutch can’t do it alone!

We’ll never really be able to fairly judge AG until he has more than one NFL starting caliber DL player to work with.

Not a Glenn guy here, but major props to OP for taking the time to put this together

We need help on the DL for sure, but his defensive schemes from game to game are so good some weeks, and so bad in others.

The Chargers o-line is mediocre at best. We should have been able to generate all kinds of passrush, and when we couldn’t, there was no adjustments made.

I think this was a horrible job by A.G.

Guess we’ll never know behind the scenes…curious if Dan is thinking “man, AG’s gotta be better” or “man’, AG needs some dogs on the DL besides just a double teamed Hutch”…imo, as I’ve said eleventy-billion times, the DL was the weakest link of the team going into the draft/the season, and it still is, and it wasnt really addressed. It’s really confounding as Brad has made alot of good moves, but he really seems intransigent when it comes to addressing the weakest part of the team in the DL to this point. All we got was a project DT in Broderick Martin after the end of last season…think about that, that’s kind of ass being the only addition to this DL

Well he wasn’t going to replace Hutch.
Was he going to replace Houston who had 8 sacks in 7 games?
Alim McNeill they believe is a starter.
That leaves Buggs to upgrade on. And they passed on Jalen Carter.

I more blame the coaching. Playing Houston out of position for starters.

Yeah, they’re good when they’re playing Desmond Ridder and Baker Mayfield. Not when they’re playing Geno Smith’s and Justin Herberts.

AGs defensive scheme is “hope we don’t play a good QB”

talked about this a little in the game thread, but some of those coverage decisions were, uh, well… rubbish. It keeps happening. There are big receivers that are heavily relied upon by their QB’s… we cannot leave them uncovered or give them free releases. That’s what got Pleasant fired last year, I thought. Whatever the DL issues are ( and they are significant), you can’t abandon the backend and leave receivers uncovered.
