Is Goff better than Stafford?

Burrow dosen’t win a playoff game if the Bengals give up 626 total yards of offense and 45 points in the 1st round.

Yes, it helps when the QB can tell the OC what he is comfortable with so the OC, OL coach, RB coach, & HC can put together things the QB is comfortable with.

One of the reasons I most hate this conversation is because I almost feel like the way most of these guys xo it, it has to be ripping one or the other guy.

I feel Matt has more natural ability, is equally as smart, better natural leadership energy…Goff is learning to be a better leader, and I LOVE that.

Matt would have thrived like crazy in this offense.

That said, I am thankful we made the trade.

Hoping
Goff + JaMoss + Iffy + Massive stud in this draft. That’s a huge part of a rebuild for one guy… and we would have only gotten Matt for a few more years…ALL of these players will be here for 5-10

I happy we made the trade as well. Happy Goff is our quarterback. Happy Matt got his ring. And I will be happy if we draft a QB in 2024…why can’t all this be true? Lol for real though…

That’s how it goes with the data sites. People usually only agree with them with it conforms to their opinions. PFF has their quirks and they aren’t perfect by any means, but probably not deserving of complete dismissal either

That ESPN mirrors PFF this year though, with the win rates, lends some credence. Is anyone going to say our guard position wasn’t a giant shit show all year? Especially RG. It also dovetails with Goff being the 10th most hurried QB

It’s difficult to find full analysis on Oline from years ago so regardless of how one might feel about PFF here’s a few of the years they ranked top ten

In 2013 PFF ranked the Lions Oline 8th overall.
PB: 5th, RB: 14th, PEN: 1st
Larry Worford killed it that year and was PFF second team all pro

In 2012 PFF ranked the Lions Oline 7th overall.
PB – 4th, RB – 13th, PEN – 10th
In the commentary they write: “Stud: That was the best we’ve seen Gosder Cherilus”

In 2011 PFF ranked the Oline 10th
Run Rank 22nd, Pass Rank 5th, Penalties Rank 14th
Commentary was: “They didn’t do a great job opening up holes in the run game, but the Lions’ offensive line did a good job of preventing the exposure of Matthew Stafford’s poor play under pressure.”
Rob Sims was the best graded lineman that year

Haha exactly the movie scene I was thinking about when creating my apple list! Big money in the shrimp business.

The Lions dropped a little in win rate after week 18.
ESPN has them 18th in pass block win rate but they nudged up a little in run block to settle at 9th

2022 NFL pass-rushing, run-stopping, blocking leaderboard - Win rate rankings for top players, teams >

Both guards scored poorly. Jackson allowed five pressures. And Brown allowed three, with a sack

I’m sorry but I’m not buying that the lions ever
had even an average line during Matt’s tenure here. Every week when someone posts PFFs top 5 high and low rankings I laugh. I just don’t buy what they are selling. Goffs pressure rate for instance…do people watching really see a guy who is under pressure? Bottom 1/3rd in the league in this category? It’s crazy talk. People give Goff credit for getting rid of the ball as the reason he didn’t take sacks. Stafford was also very good at getting rid of the ball and throwing it away. I used to say it all the time how good Stafford was at avoiding sacks with throw aways.

I get what you are saying thought in terms of liking/disliking something to back your argument. I’m guilty of this I’m sure. But I will never use PFF to fit my narrative. It’s trash whether it aligns with my viewpoint or not lol

I think if Vaitai hadn’t got injured we had a top ten line easily. Probably top five. The RG carousel was a shit show.
And why I hope we draft a C/G in the top three rounds. I also think having one of the best blocking RBs in the league and best blocking WR in the league has helped the line quite a bit
