That’s the argument I made when we got him (because I viewed him as a quality QB) and most Lions fans thought just about anybody was better. How many threads did we have for two seasons about drafting a mobile QB and just cutting Goff? Most Lions fans felt he wasn’t the answer not long ago.
The guys who won’t change I feel do not think rationally….. they want a mobile dual threat QB and don’t think they can win without one. Goff is not what they want and nothing he does will change their view. He’s the problem. Not the answer no matter what.
There was a lot of those posters on this board just two years ago that felt we needed a dual threat guy to win. We couldn’t win in today’s NFL without one. Most have changed their stance now.
This guys take is that you can’t win with him so you should trade him to boost your team so you can win with the next dual threat guy. People like him see the rankings like this guy.
They think the draft is loaded with Drake Mayes, Jayden Daniels, Bo Nix’s and Jaxen Darts. They think all of those guys are upgrades over Goff. They think you can just grab an easy upgrade in the draft.
I thought this would be a good thread to show how people change and can be swayed by the actions of the person.
In today’s society where people are polarized and unwilling to listen or change their opinions. This thread proves most fans can and will change. There’s still good debate and points made by others. So let this thread be a lesson to us all.
Goff needs to be better in the playoffs. He needs to outplay the other QB. He got outplayed by Purdy. And his Washington game was a disaster. Legends are made in the postseason.
Brad Holmes is like that coordinator that just can’t make adjustments, he is stuck in his system and refuses to adjust it to fit his team., we will always be the bridesmaid but never the bride. I really don’t think Holmes will be able to deliver a Superbowl here, he doesn’t know how to finish the team or is just to stuck to try, we will be always be waiting the next year for his players to develop.
Holmes said in an interview that he learned from taking project players (sounded like he was referencing BroMar, and possibly Manu). I’d call that learning from past decisions, and a major change in philosophy.
Which GM do you prefer to him and why?
Also - since his tenure, he’s the most winning GM in the NFL.
Additionally - how did we get knocked out of the playoffs in the last 2 years?
…was it because we didn’t have enough good players?
I’m citing turnovers and injuries as the 2 major reasons. Take the 2 top defenders off of ANY defense, and pile 11 more injuries to starters on top of that. Is that on Brad?
In closing, we have the best HC in the NFL, as well as the best GM.
I’m beginning to wonder with the salary cap if we can build a roster around Goff that is good enough to actually win a super bowl. Without an elite offensive line Goff almost becomes a liability because he can’t avoid the rush and escape the pocket. His lack of a deep ball makes him totally dependent on yards after catch. This requires a lot of talent around him. This brings me to the question.
Is there another team in the NFL that would be better if they had Goff at QB? It seems nearly impossible to amass the amount of talent we had on offense last year.
Their entire offense is tailor made for Jared Goff.
Kyler Murray doesn’t fit that offense at all. It’s why they actually only have a functioning offense with Jacoby Brissett.
Murray wouldn’t fit here either though. He’s not a timing / on schedule passer. He would probably just run 50 yards every play to get 5 years of field position.
I’d also argue that Goff would be a fit in the Chicago offense as well, but the Cardinals are probably his best fit out of any team I’ve seen.
They certainly have the outside weapons but I doubt their O Line would keep Goff upright for a whole season. Brisset is much sturdier and has the ability to stretch the field with his arm. Unlike Murray he can step up into the pocket and deliver the ball downfield. He can’t run around like Murray but he can avoid a rush and make a defense pay. I’m not sure Goff would be better.
So why do we shit the bed in our biggest games ? And the eagles and others put the finale touches on there roster why Brad always sits pat. You can believe all you want . But this may be as far as Brad can take us. And I would rather have eagles GM. I rather take a swing at a championship rather then just sitting pat waiting for next year and my draft pics to develop. And even Dan he just got out coaches and his ass handed to him by coach of the year last year. Your a little bias I think. But still love you big Natty
Because we play against the best teams, especially in the playoffs. Goff is AMAZING, but not so much when faced with physical confrontation. If you hit him, he’s not the same guy (no QB is, but Goff is a bit more of an extreme case).
The path to the SB for us is to Protect the fuuuuck out of Goff.
You definitely are Big Natty. Your as honest as they come. And I said maybe, I’m just starting to get on the fence. But I hate having a really good team and just standing pat waiting on the Bro Marts and Manus. Our oline needs help the guys we have are not ready, but the rest of the team is, so don’t sit on your hands doing nothing go get some help even if it cost you a bit. This team is ready and it is a injustice to the other players not too. That is the big difference between Brad and Howie. Howie gonna say f-ck the course and go get help , Brad is aways , well there always next year stay the course shit.
