So I met this guy who was clearly a Goff hater. He felt the Lions would never be able to win it all as long as Goff was the QB. He made many of the Goff Hater comments like.
Goff wasn’t good enough for the Rams and McVay knew he couldn’t win it all with Goff. That’s why he traded him away. We should too.
Goff is soft and hates getting hit. Thats why he never runs and is so quick to throw the ball away.
Goff is a dump off artist. He won’t go deep and he sucks when he does.
But one comment he made got me thinking. He said…
Goff is who he is and can’t get better…. So the Lions should move on now while his value is high and they can get the most for him.
So……. That begs the questions.
Should the Lions trade Goff now while his value is high? What would his value be?
Is this the best Goff there is? Can he get better?
Ultimately can the Lions win it all with him?
Let me first say that I firmly believe the Lions can win it all with him. I also think trading Goff would be asinine… the Lions window is now and trading him would seriously hurt team and fan morale.
But I think his value is indeed the highest it may ever be and the Lions could get 2 first rounders in a trade. So I can at least entertain the thought of it but I still wouldn’t do it.
But in fairness let’s look at question 2. Is Goff improving or is this it for him? …. Let’s compare his last 3 years of stats.

Goff is clearly getting better in most categories and has notably gotten better in passer rating and completion percentage. However the average yard per attempt is one category that I am happy to see improving. The one area he’s notably declined is in Sacks. But I think this is happening because he’s standing in there longer in an attempt to deliver the ball and has changes/injuries on his OL… Point is Goff is definitely getting better. Question for me is… just how much better can he realistically get?
OK this is an easy one, this statement you made right here is where you can stop.
Even if they could get 3 1st rd’ers for him, who are they going to get that can come in and do what Goff is doing right now?
Also, this team doesn’t have that many holes to fill, BH can do that in FA and the draft.
Goff has at least 4 more good years in him and is running one of the best NFL offenses right now, it’s really can’t get any better.
Who in the world are you getting to replace him? And how are they making us better? 12 wins, 15wins, and definitely looks like we’re winning double digit games again. Would be the greatest run in lions history and let’s get rid of him? Makes no sense to me.
I don’t know how much better Goff can get, none of us do. But even if his growth curve flattens out, he’s more than enough to win a SB with. This guy you met - who is he a fan of?
Using this person’s logic, Sewell’s value is off the charts as is Hutchinson’s, Gibbs’s, St. Brown’s, etc. Should we trade them too while their value is at their peak? I mean they’ve never won a SB so might as well stock up on draft capital. Clearly, they don’t have what it takes. /S
Watched the Browns game with Browns fans this weekend. Tried to mention how trading Myles could At least net some top notch picks. Was boo’ed out of the room.
Never know how fans feel, and you never know the correct move. Goff isn’t the best qb in the league, but the SB winners list is riddled with worse qb’s.
Not on you Air, but both of these narratives are bullshit and we all know it. Goff steps up in the pocket frequently and gets blasted more than most know. He doesn’t run much because that’s not his strength. Brady didn’t run much either, must be soft. Not sure why I’m replying to their non-sense.
As for going deep (throwing the ball for the ‘that’s what she said’ crowd ), just watch the games. That narrative has been debunked as well. Our bread and butter is hitting the receivers in stride/YAC. Doesn’t mean he can’t or won’t throw deep.
He absolutely IS getting better…his leadership and mental strength have grown a lot, as well as his faith. I am very proud of him. Egoic growth is the hardest growth…he has done very, very well with that.
Goff will win at least 2 super bowls here. They are literally going to make a statue of him. I would love to see Sheila build a Detroit Lions Museum.
Statues with stories, highlights, memoribialia, etc of all of our best guys, our history, etc.
Well being a Lions fan for 50 years I can tell you it’s a hell of a lot easier to get a Bad QB then a good one. When you get a good one you keep him, ours is boarder line a great one. So it’s a no brainer and it shouldn’t even be a thought.
You either have a qb or you need a qb. We have one.
The point is to win a title, not to get draft picks.
Many many lesser qbs have won a title.
His value is probably about as high as it will get, but the thing is, players are not stocks. Players are equipment. A combines highest value is at harvest time, doesn’t mean the farmer should sell his.
Bottom line is that bye weeks cause weird threads.
