Is Goff getting better - Should the Lions trade him now?

Probably can’t get much better, he’s playing an an elite level.

Should we trade him now? - - Definitely not

Goff has 7-8 years of elite play left in him.

Unless you have an young Aaron Rodgers or young Patrick Mahomes as your young backup QB of the future you don’t trade your franchise QB.

An argument could be made that the Cardinals should trade Murray and the Jaguars should trade Lawrence as neither really took the next step. However the Lions absolutely shouldn’t trade Goff.

As Holmes said a while back
Far easier to go backwards than forward when changing quarterback position

We have journeyman Kyle Allen as our backup. The Hooker experiment was a disaster.

If we traded Goff and then what!? Draft another QB like the Bears do every other year? Makes about as much sense as trading Sewell.

Is top 5 stats across-the-board for 3 years straight, not good enough for you?

Tom Lewand didn’t do much with his time in Detroit but I remember when Valenti was getting a lot of fans frothy with the suggestion to trade Calvin Johnson. Lewand prophetically said, “…you don’t win the lottery and then spend all that money trying to win the lottery”.

The value of a great quarterback on a contending team is nearly infinite*

The only trade I could conceive would be for a comparable quarterback who fits the team’s system better. I don’t think that player exists right now

*with the caveat that the Packers did this twice and improved both times

The Packers found the “sweet spot” and moved on from aging QBs who were close to retirement.

Favre had one great season in Minnesota but otherwise was a league average QB after the trade. Rodgers was injured for a season, had a season to forget (although he didn’t play horrible) and is playing okay but not spectacular now.

I’d say the closest comparable is the Chiefs with Alex Smith (although he wasn’t as good as Favre / Rodgers). Smith could’ve had a decent post Chiefs career but got injured fairly badly and decided to move on.

Correct on all.

But what if we could trade him for Matt Stafford and bunch of 1st round picks again from Mcvay???

Sorry @Air2theThrown but after you said asinine, I didn’t even bother to read any justification you posted for trading him. Asinine is the right word for trading him. Goff is by many metrics a borderline top 5 QB in the league right smack dab in his prime on a contract that will age well as the cap rises and QB salaries escalate not to mention that he’s a perfect fit for this offense and culture, absolutely insane to ever consider trading him. That’s it, that’s all.

Hey OP you poking the bear around these parts anytime you say anything even remotely close to negative about Goff. If you don’t like his shoes its over.

Why would the Lions trade their QB if he’s is playing his best? Don’t they want to win? I can say Goff is making throws this season thats dropping my jaw. Never seen him sling it like this ever. He scares me with his inconsistant turnovers. The guy will be perfect for weeks then throw 5 INT’s with a few fumbles. And he needs to just keep playing according to the script and he’s damn good. He also has a no trade clause.

Shit i might have poked the bear myself…..

Goff is much better now that AG is gone, and he doesn’t have to try and carry the defense.

LOL, says the guy that labeled everyone a AG hater because we think Shep is doing a better job

Goff can get better at winning.

But all I can hear is the saying “it is a lot easier to get worse at QB than better”
