Is Hutchinson already better then Porcher?

As everyone here knows Robert Porcher is the Lions single season sack record at (15) and career at 95.5.

But Porcher really didn’t take off the first few years and was unbelievable for a handful of year in the middle of his career.

Do you think Hutch is already better? Do you think he beats Porcher single season record this year?

I say he has to beat the single season mark before I put him over Porcher. I really liked Porcher. He was one of my favorite 90s player on their defense.

Different era, different rules, different league.
Love Porcher, loved Baker more, love Hutchinson as well.

No. Not yet. It’s a matter on longevity. God forbid something catastrophic would happen to Hutch, injury wise. Then we won’t be saying, “He’s better than Porcher”. We’ll be saying, “Man, he could have been better than Porcher”.

But, let’s revisit this after this season, or possibly after 2025.

Porcher didn’t take off right away because he was played out of position. Fontes had him playing DT and had Luther Elliss at DE. When Bobby Ross replaced Fontes Ross switched the two players and their positions and both got better. But I think Hutch is more talented and a better athlete than Porcher

Yup - easily
So were Bubba Baker & Suh

Suh = best defensive lineman ever to play in Detroit…just left too early.

Agree with Natty, in year one, Hutch was a problem the opposition had to scheme for. His relentless pursuit of the QB and RB is unmatched in my 55 years of Fandom.
In order to get a large # of sacks, you need to minimize the escape route of the QB. if you only have 1 defender applying max pressure on a regular basis, it allows the QB to slide away from him and the O line can have a man ready to pick him up when he beats his 1st blocker.
Hutch has been a top performer from hame one, its about time he gets some help in containing the escape routes and can put the QB down.
I have realistic expectations TY with Hutch, 12-14 sacks, and allowing Levi, Alim, and Paschal in on the action as he pushes the QB their way.

Are we talking Carrera or 911?

Just showed my age by mentioning a Carrera. That was the Herse of marriages under the siege of midlife crisis during my youth.

Unfortunately i think the discussion of Porcher is enough to show our age.

First two years compared:

Hutch 21 sacks already
porcher in fist first four years inly had 17 ….

In an era where the rules leans towards the Offense… hutch is kicking his buttt right now … if Hutch gets 9 sacks…. He is already 1/3 of the way to that sack franchise record; in just three years

I hope he gets 23 sacks this year…!!

And the next and the next and the next!!

Porcher was a great Lion. No idea why he’s not in the Lions Ring of Honor. No one is even close to his 95.5 sacks

Procher was great.

Hutch is great.

Hutch is entering his prime and his “pre-prime” is pretty impressive.

I believe Hutch will be better than Porcher, but I am not ready to give it to him yet.

As for Natty’s assertion that Suh is the best DL to ever play in Detroit, I can only say he is the best that I have ever seen. But that would exclude the years before 1975ish.

Bubba Baker even better, however, sacks weren’t counted when he played.
Wikipedia has him with 131 sacks in his career. 23 or 23.5 in his rookie season with the Lions.

It was insane.

This is a fact IMO.

Now lets see where Hutch can take his game. The NFL is a straight data league. His numbers and impact will be clear based on those factors.

I put it at a 60% chance he will be an all time great. Which is insane but he has that type of work ethic and athletic ability.
