Is Troy Franklin Detroit Lions WR of Future?

Agree, I drafted him in our Den Mock for Buffalo #28.
Thats2 thought I had ulterior motives (any time I can snipe a guy from him makes me happy, but no).

I think he’s a perfect fit there. They lost Gabe Davis.
Diggs is 31/32 and acting all diva disgruntled.

I think he could be a Rashee Rice option 2 for the Bills.
All they got is Shakir & slot guy Curtis Samuel now.

Kincaid TE & Cook RB make up a lot of that slack now though.

I wouldnt be surprized if Legette turns out to be a better NFL wr then either Brian Thomas jr or AD Mitchell. I wouldn’t be mad if we took him at 29. On tape he looks like a faster AJ Brown. I trust Brad to make the right decision.

I think Thomas and Mitchell are faster, smoother and better at releasing and separating but Legette may appeal to Brad and Dan more because of his Grit.
Mitchell is a little softer and Thomas has always been a star and played with elite talent at LSU.
Legette is a late blooming 3 star grinder. More of a willing and physical blocker.

Yes Legette is just getting started. He is a decent route runner considering he is still learning. His separation will improve there with good nfl coaching. As far as speed goes all 3 run a lazer timed 4.3something. On film Legette runs away from DBs almost like Jamo… he hasnt touched his ceiling yet.

Yeah, I am a little leery of Legette’s quickness. I say this as a guy who has him as a draft crush. I can find no 3 cone numbers but he looks a little linear. The thing with him is that he can run by you and he can out jump you. And at 220+ he can outbody you. We don’t have a guy like that on our roster. I’ve seen a Treylon Burks comparison (who I thought would do better as a pro) but I don’t see it. He is significantly more explosive. The only match is the weight.

But I dunno, maybe they feel like they can get away without a traditional X type. Use Laporta etc. I thought Reynolds was incredibly useful chain mover last year with his wingspan and gave us some height in the red zone.

I’m gonna have to take a closer look at McConkey. Everybody keeps talking him up…

So basically they’re nothing alike.

Edit: I’m kidding, but there are definitely differences between the 2

On the second day of Senior Bowl practices he showed the necessary separation skills to make his skill set work. It’s one of the main things I was looking for, and while he kinda struggled the first day, the second day he was a different guy (before he got hurt). Must have put a lot of work into it overnight.

And once I’ve seen them do it once, I know they can do it. And this was against the best the class has to offer.

I also think there’s probably a lot of good X WRs who would have bad 3 cone times. We know Metcalf’s was atrocious, and I’m pretty sure Calvin’s wouldn’t have been great either. Evans was below average, Plaxico wouldn’t have been great. Deebo’s was OK (though he’s not an X). Randy freaking Moss ran a 7.19, which is well below average.

I don’t think Legette will ever be a separation star at the top of his route, but he’s got plenty of other ways to win.

They both have the same lithe build and move so smoothly, that’s the main reason for the comp imo. They look very similar when watching them on tape. But they have different strengths and weaknesses for sure.

You are misinterpreting my Thomas perspective. I’m a big fan. In fact I’m pretty sure I was the first one on this board to bring him up as a guy that was likely to fly up boards. I did so sometime in September.
He’s clearly a helluva talent.

I’m just saying that the route tree aspect of comparing Hyatt to Franklin actually moreso applies to Brian Thomas, Jr. I have zero long term concerns about Thomas being able to run a diverse tree.

Can confirm @CuriousHusker was the first to mention him.

Troy Franklin round 4

I’d still take Jerry Rice kid over him !

Apparently he’s been red-flagged medically. I’d love to have him but I highly doubt he lasts another two rounds (basically).

Round 4 is a good spot for him

If he’s been flagged medically than he could drop to late 5 for us

Any idea what the medical issue is?

I don’t. Just heard whispers about them.

This came out recently, right? BC I don’t check ranking updates all that regularly but I remember checking consensus a week or two ago and he was 30s and 40s mostly.

There isn’t any.

Teams just drafted guys like Roman Wilson & Mccaffrey over him

I heard it’s dickfish related.

Hopefully Panthers draft Franklin first pick round 4

Then they can trade us Mingo or Marshall for a penny

That doesn’t seem to bother Brad Holmes much.
