I both agree and disagree. The Lions need playmakers at the skill positions and at the defensive positions. That’s been their entire problem. Nobody makes plays. JK makes plays regardless of blocking on occasion. Granted, I’d rather have a playmaking DE that applies pressure and get sacks. Or a LB that gets passes defensed or runs with TEs or RBs and gets TFL. Hell, I’ll take a G that is explosive and can open holes. But, we lose games because when we need someone to be great…they are just okay. And that’s just not good enough. I believe that Dobbins can be that guy that makes plays, unlike KJ.
J.K Dobbins is a beast and super fast , kid was clocked running a 4.32 40yd dash. I’ve watched every game he has played . Would LOVE TO HAVE HIM .
We have bigger needs with already having KJ & Bo if resigned, yet I pull the trigger anyway , the kid is special .
Talent often trumps need and in this case Dobbins is a real talent that I think we would regret not pulling the trigger on.
Nothing is stopping us from drafting RB from a financial perspective as we have limited funds dedicated to the position
Never said our running game was already really good, of course it isn’t. but it sure as hell isn’t anywhere near the top priority that calls for using our 1st round pick on an RB. We aren’t losing games cuz we can’t run; we’re losing games cuz we can’t stop the other team from scoring. The last couple of weeks we’ve had big runs nullified due to a penalty. J.K. Robbins is not going to fix that, he’ll just be the next RB that rips off a big one that gets called back.
I don’t watch Ohio State anymore than I have to…but the one thing I did notice about Dobbins was his calves and leg thickness. KJ doesn’t have that, he’s built like Kevin Smith.
I don’t know how fast he is but he didn’t have any problem out-running guys yesterday and Michigan’s defense is built on speed.
Right. It’s the same argument every year, we don’t need a RB yet our run game always sucks imagine that.
Dobbins has NFL class leading speed . What makes him stand out is that thick lower body , low center of gravity frame , built like a truck, quickness ,suddenness that is more Barry like then E.Smith like. His contact balance is elite. A natural pass catcher as well. To me this kid is a better prospect than Zeke and a hair behind Barkley only because of the way he is used
I would say he is a cross between Barry and Shady . He is a special talent .
So where would we expect to draft Dobbins if he declared for the draft?
Our running game is already really good anyways.
The point is, if you don’t have a good oline, you’re going no place. Those rookie QB’s that keep kicking our ass, do it with olines that manhandled our Dline.
Same with the Dline.
It begins and ends in the trenches. It’s common knowledge, and common sense.
My guess is that Dobbins is going to fall into that “no mans land” between our first round pick and our second round pick.
So we’ll either have to trade back from our first round pick (which Quinn has never done) or we’ll have to move up from our second round pick (which Quinn has done).
Hey, maybe we can use that awesome 5th round pick we got from Seattle to move up to grab Dobbins.
He’s a good back but not elite. Good not great speed IMO

J.K. Dobbins 4.32 electronically controlled and timed 40 YD dash was behind only Denzel Ward & Paris Campbell when tested going into the 2017 Ohio State season . Will he test that fast at the combine ? No, probably not but speed will never be an issue for Dobbins he will clock high 4.3s or low 4.4s . That is elite .
I watch every single Ohio State game. This kid has had many a defender with the angle to catch him and he just blows by them eating up the advantage at will .
Kid is going to be a stud .
Geez, guys. The Lions do not need a 1st round RB! Or 2nd round, 3rd round, or 4th round. They need a run-blocking OG, OT, DT, Edge rusher, CB, LB, and a slot WR if Amendola leaves. Okay, maybe if the guy is the next Barry Sanders, otherwise hell no. This team sucks on defense, they’ve had a lead in every ■■■■■■■ game and lost it most of the time cuz the Lions OL can’t run-block for shit and run out the clock. Our RB breaks off a 20 yarder and it comes back on the holding penalty and now it’s 1st and 20. 2 runs later it’s 3rd and 15 and we’re ■■■■■■.
I get the lack of enthusiasm. But Bevell needs to keep building a dominant rushing attack. RB’s get hurt, so you need to stack them. After KeJo went down, so did we. Just now we are seeing promise with Scarborough, but you need three really good backs IF you want to count on a strong rushing attack for 16 plus games. I’d re-sign Scarborough, but I’d also look at a trade down and using some of that capital to maybe move up a bit from the 2nd to get a Swift. Drafting one of the better RBs this season to add to KeJo and Bo would be smart. We have FA bucks and should spend it on a couple Oline spots IMO. Glasgow is a decision. PFF thinks he’s amazing at RG. Is he going to command an amazing RG contract? I say if he is going to give us an aMAIZEing discount… ok, but we absolutely need a LG and let’s just put some bucks at it and be great there in 2020. LT and RT, personally I’d flush them both. But it looks like Decker is staying. A stud LG will help, but man he’s a freaking penalty magnet and he always does it on a darned 30 yard gain! Wagner just stood in there against Mack and did in his last match up with him. But man I see a lot of average for that huge money. We can save quite a bit of cap if we cut him, and another FA RT should be the preferred option.
That would leave our 1A for DE (Yetur Gross-Matos?) then we could go D again in the 2nd. If we could inject a Swift, Dobbins or Taylor with a 1B and fix the rest as I laid out, I’d be good with that. This defense would really be helped out by longer drives and being able to drain the clock when we have a lead. RB’s get hurt and if your running game goes with it, we are one dimensional once again.

Do you like him better than Swift? That kid is just so sudden when he sticks his foot in the ground and then is just like light switch up to speed.
I would like a dominant DL in rd 1 and a RB in the 2nd. Swift, Dobbins and Taylor all look really good, but not great. The B1G Championship should give insight on Dobbins or Taylor, both are just under '6 and weigh around 225 and have averaged over 6 per carry in college.
The thing i am hesitant on is the level of competition he has played against.

Maybe so but he got caught from behind on a handful of breakaway runs.
Elite speed (Tyreek Hill) doesn’t get caught from behind.
My first preference is to trade up to get Young. If we are close enough that our first this year and next can do it then I pull the trigger on that one. I think he immediately changes our defense.
Aside from that I am either for trading down, trading for good player or some combination of the two.
For instance, if the Jets would take our first for Jamaal Adams and their 2nd then I would be all for it. Similar thinking for Trent Williams though i wouldn’t give up nearly as much.
Patricia and Quinn need guys that will make an impact in 2020 so I’m not sure that trading down multiple times and having a ton of rookies in the rotation is going to be a scenario that they are into
As far as RB let’s see how Bo does to close out the year. Even if Bo continues to shine I think we need to add a third quality guy on Day three. Bo and KJ aren’t the most durable pair.

He had to have added some weight, right? Or he’s one of those guys that’s much faster in shorts. He’s plenty fast but he sure plays like a 4.45-4.5 flat guy.
I’ll believe he ran a 4.3 when he does it at the combine. Not saying he is slow, but he doesn’t look 4.3 fast to me.
