Yeah who knows…I gave up a long time ago trying to guess who Brad Holmes would take.

No body has clue what he will do. Two years ago might go down as the best draft of all time. Those picks were all curve balls.

While we are on the OSU bus, anyone have any idea’s on where Josh Simmons might go?

I thought maybe it was Justin Timberlake.

I don’t personally like Sawyer, but he would be a very good pick, though JTT would be better!

Higher than he should

Serious is no one going to tell us who JTT is

Or do I have to go through OSU and UM rosters as I suspect he is on one of those rosters?

Or should expand my search to Texas and Georgie and Bama also?

I actually just looked up DE 2025 draft

JTT is ranked 5th (he was the dude who sprang ankle in game)

Sawyer is ranked 15

I actually would agree JTT just looked more athletic

Sawyer gave me serious Spielman vibes of a dude who was all in but a step slow. But again on the strip sack TD he dipped under that Tackle slick as snot. But the struggle is he is against college dudes. Need to see some combine times and confirm he can make it happen at in NFL

I’d draft him if he officially changes his name to Tom

Though his mind is not for rent
Don’t put him down as arrogant
His reserve, a quiet defense
Riding out the day’s events

I think JTT is a better run defender but Sawyer is more versatile. Neither is a great pass rusher. Sawyer has more length but JTT has more girth imo

I hadn’t thought about how the playoff will help scouting. I guess that’s the one thing i will like about all these extra games. Seeing guys go against top talent should really make some draft boards shuffle.

There’s a lot of recency bias going into Sawyer’s evaluation right now, and honestly I don’t totally disagree with it. Stepping up in big moments in big games is an excellent quality. I have bumped him up for it, but it’s important not to overreact.

Because we still have to remember that overall, it’s a very small sample size, and we also have to remember that he only had 2 sacks in his first 10 games this year. Against guys he should have been dominating (and also didn’t touch the QB against Michigan).

So who is the real Jack Sawyer? I’ve watched a ton of him because, like most everyone on here, I realize he’s gonna check all the boxes we like in a prospect.

Strengths:

  • Incredibly hot motor. Plays every down like he might die if he doesn’t make a play.
  • Vastly improved hand usage (the swipe he used to defeat Cam Williams on THAT play in the national semifinal was textbook). I still wouldn’t call it great, but it’s good enough now to fall under the umbrella of a strength rather than a weakness. Packs a punch with them too.
  • Sets a decent edge, very good at contain and shedding blocks.
  • VERY smart. You’re not gonna fool him very often with misdirections or fakes, and his timing to bat down passes is second-nature.
  • Good long-area athleticism. Very good build-up speed for his size. Combines with intelligence to make him a weapon dropping into coverage.
  • Playmaker who steps up in big games.

Weaknesses:

  • Very poor short-area athlete. Virtually zero quick-twitch, lacks agility.
  • On the whole, slow get-off at the snap. He has improved his timing, but he’s just not very explosive from a stationary start. Better with his hand in the dirt than standing.
  • Most of his sack production comes from chase plays. QBs often get run into him when running away from others or trying to extend plays (see Oregon sacks).
  • Not as strong as you would expect from someone his size. As mentioned he sets a decent edge and packs a punch, but doesn’t win enough with speed-to-power, which is something we seem to value highly. If I had to guess I’d say strong upper-body, weaker lower-body, which also shows in his lack of explosion.
  • Short arms.

There’s no way Brad & Co won’t like Jack Sawyer. Everyone on here knows that. The question will be, with some of his athletic questions, where should he go? Personally I WOULD NOT take him before our 2nd round pick, and even that would feel a little high. But he has risen enough for me over the past month that I’d be OK with it.

I’d only draft him if someone promises to plant a flag in the middle of Ford Field after every loss to keep him motivated.

This is pretty granular but my biggest issue with him is how stiff he is and my concerns about being to bend the arc to threaten a QB that steps into the pocket.

BUT he’ll have four division games a year against QBs that tend to retreat to but time which would actually play into his skill set quite a bit.

That may change with Caleb and I don’t think you draft him for that reason.

I’d be fine with him. Our first seems rich and I think he’s the style of high floor, low ceiling player that I think we would avoid in that spot. But in the second, sure why not. Very likely to be a solid, mid level starting pro IMO.

I still prefer both Tyleik and JTT over him however.

Yeah pretty much sums up my feelings exactly. He’s very unlikely to be a complete miss, so that floor makes him appealing. And honestly, someone who “cleans up” sacks when Aidan sends QBs fleeing isn’t a terrible idea.

It’s just I prefer high draft picks to be the impacters, not to thrive on someone else’s impact. I want them pushing sacks towards Aidan as much as he pushed sacks towards them. Because honestly, Zadarius can clean up from Aidan’s pressures. We don’t need to spend a lot of capital on a guy like that when we already have one. And can probably find another one on the cheap. It’s the impact guys you should pay up for.

It’s also a bit of what is he? He’s a little smaller than I think we’d find ideal for that base end. Not enough juice for our JACK spot. So there there is a square peg in a round hole aspect to the fit of our scheme stays the same.

Then again his frame is easily big enough to get to 275.
