Which would make him even worse as an athlete. He may be better served going the other direction. He’s really good dropping into coverage and his lack of quickness and agility can be better covered up by his smarts.
I really like Elijah Roberts as a fit. ++ college run defender, slippery if not sudden as a pass rusher, leadership traits, decent pedigree. I don’t expect him to be a star and yet I’m going to die on that hill.
I’ve been warming up to Tyleik as our first round pick. Kind of doubt he gets to us. But we’d have three powerful interior studs for a year and then Reader moves on.
Right, Roberts gives you A LOT of what Sawyer gives you, but at a much cheaper cost.
I’m not as high on Tyleik because to me, he offers so little against the pass. Maybe he can come around - he’s got the juice of someone who ought to be better - but he’s had plenty of opportunities. And to me you just don’t draft one-dimensional guys that high. I’d much rather have Caldwell.
Aidan will take care of it.
Interesting. I think his pass rush potential is what intrigues me most about him. I do think his body has gotten a bit too sloppy though.
Caldwell is a better value but I think he’s going to be a riser.
That’s what has always intrigued me about him, and yet when I watch he usually puts up a nothing-rep when he gets a chance to rush. I need to pay more attention to him over say, the last half of the season, but I zoned-in on Sawyer during those games and never really saw him flash peripherally the way you typically do, so I’m not going into it with high hopes.
Every year I swear his tire gets a bit bigger.
Can you confirm, @HSVLion? Has Tyleik gotten progressively fatter?
To me he’s everything we are missing/wanting at the other edge spot across from Hutch.
SAM/JACK/Edge2
Everything we hoped Charles Harris, Barnes, Houston, Nowaske would be.
I’m not concerned about base end…paschal, Levi, Wingo can fill in that spot as DT and do just fine.
Jack Sawyer in the Mike Vrabel role is how I see it. Both Buckeyes think Vrabel was a 3rd round pick
He’d be very good in an old-school Patriots-style 3-4, but that’s not what we play. Our SAM position is more LB than pass-rusher, and while Sawyer is a plus dropping in coverage, not so much he can play full-time LB (imo of course).
I do think that’s his best spot though. Too bad so few teams run that defense anymore, and the Steelers prefer their guys to be much lighter. Hell maybe Vrabel will go back to it in NE.
It feels like it, although it doesn’t feel like he’s lost any athleticism because of it.
I heard announcers talking about pass rushing as a unit. I just don’t see how a guy like this wouldn’t fit. Especially that concept
If we lined up
Hutch, McNeil, Z’Darius
Jack, Anzalone
Amik , Arnold
Kerby
Branch, Iffy, Barnes/Sawyer would give us enough versatility to do a lot of things in that blitz package.
On the Jman lifestyle I see
I’d pass. After “The Game” he displayed that he’s a mental midget. Do we really want to deal with that when he faces adversity?
Yea,
A modern day warrior
Mean, mean stride
Today’s Tom Sawyer
Mean, mean pride
Looks like fun.

Yeah didn’t he make some dumb comment after the game , can’t remember what it was
I think you’ve only paid attention to one game out of his four year career.
He’s faced plenty of adversity and responded by leading his team to a national championship.
Not sure that qualifies as making him a “mental midget”
Problem is he isnt very athletic and lacks bend , guy is a try hard guy but lacks the tools to beat top tackles in this league. No way he is considered in the first.
