Some interesting comments on T Lawrence by Head Coach bolded by frm.

Pederson appears frustrated by his high-priced QB’s decision-making ability and maybe even his availability. When asked last week how a sprained non-throwing shoulder might limit Lawrence, he said: “Probably how he carries his duffel bag into the stadium. I don’t know. … Throwing-wise, it’s not necessarily going to affect it too much. It’s kind of a pain-tolerance deal.”
The Jaguars feel broken, and the results back it up.
Baalke’s draft picks in four years have been mostly underwhelming, from first-round linebacker Devin Lloyd in 2021 to second-round defensive tackle Maason Smith in 2024. His latest free-agent class is even more damning, an aging group that cost nearly $90 million guaranteed and has yet to make a difference. He also chose to pay quarterback Trevor Lawrence and cornerback Tyson Campbell – good but not great players – like stars this summer.
Pederson, meanwhile, has no one on the roster he can point to as having developed during his tenure, and Lawrence seemingly has regressed in an offensive scheme that feels stale and predictable.
The article points out that the Jags currently have the #1 pick in the draft. They just signed Lawrence to a massive deal and then you read Pederson’s comments on Lawrence.
Curious to see how Khan handles this offseason and who do they pick #1?
Does Pederson and Lawrence stay?
Or
Does Baalke get the boot…
Lucky for Shad Khan……
he doesn’t have to pay 2 fired coaches when he lets Pederson go… since Urban Meyer was dumb enough to get caught fondling a co-ed on camera…
Here’s betting Lawrence doesn’t play Sunday as he continues to contemplate surgery. The season is gone. Why should he risk further injury for a HC that doesn’t appreciate him?
Baalke is pretty awful. Although, as a Michigan fan, I have to always thank him for royally screwing up with Jim Harbaugh. The year after Harbaugh went to the Super Bowl, Baalke threw him under the bus for a rough year, causing Jim to leave for UM.
But seriously… the guy just isn’t great at his job. Do you remember a couple of years ago when they went on that crazy spending spree in FA (the year they signed Christian Kirk and several other dudes)? How is that working out?
Not a concern I have, but I have to wonder how Dan can keep the guys intense/motivated for this game.
You know the players around the league talk, how many players want out of Jacksonville, who is willing to go to war for Pederson?
It’s this type of game a top notch team can come out flat, it’s called playing down to your level of competition.
If Jacksonville suddenly decides this is their super bowl game and we come out flat as a pancake, it’s the recipe for losing a game you never should lose. Hey it happens.
I’m not one to be negative, I normally see the glass overflowing. But I do have an inkling of concern after the last 5 intense weeks of games we have played.(Excluding TN)
After saying all that, my faith in Dan having the team ready is 110 percent
Lions 34 - Jags 17
This a not a “drag them to the deep” game, it’s a “do your job” game where you clean up recent mistakes. At the same time, there are some extremely talented players on their team that can make life hell or cause injury if you’re not taking them seriously. I don’t think this team feeds on emotion as much as others might think. I think there’s a professionalism and commitment to the details that will keep them on point.
It is valid question.
I think Dan brings up the Carolina game the Bears game from last year. Points out the goals from the start of the season are all there for the taking.
Plus, I think Smith brings some added juice to the defense as it is his first game as a Lion. He will want to make an impression, a big impression…
That’s exactly what I think he is doing. I think Pederson is done, and is trying to get fired. I thought that when he made his comment to the media after the game last week about the Mac Jones pick. “You wouldn’t figure it out.” There are a lot of ex football people that follow the sport who are legitimately trained. As soon as a coach starts getting that adversarial with the media, acting like they are superior to everyone else with a sterling 2 win season ongoing, you aren’t long for the job.
Now it’s clear he is picking the same fights with players. Next comes kicking the kicker, and if that doesn’t work, the plane rides and women groping begins.
It was a sugar high for them. They did play well for a bit and even came close to beating the Chiefs in the playoffs, IIRC. But the fall-off recently has been crazy. Thank you, Baalke for sparing Hutch from football hell.
I think this will be a big part of it. This game will have some flat spots, but I think that defense will be extremely fired up. Smith wants to prove his impact will go further than talking up the boys and carrying a tablet. He wants to get out there and prove himself to his teammates. Goff probably is itching to get the 5 pick ick taste out of his mouth, so I imagine he will have a few throws in him.
Even not playing their best, the Lions should outclass Jacksonville. Minnesota played down to them, and still beat them on FG’s alone. Jacksonville is looking for the first chance they have to check out. Don’t let them hang around and give them something to play for. Get up a couple of scores, and they will pack it in.
Khan is only the problem in so far as he’s a bad decision maker when it comes to hiring coaches and GMs. He wants to win terribly, spends money to try and fix the problem, and he doesn’t meddle in personnel/football decisions.
The problem is the people he hires and consequently listens to have been awful at their jobs.
For these reasons and more, I think this might be a job in which Ben is actually interested.
I agree Ben would make sense for them. I have a feeling, this is where Belichick ends up. Kahn will be one of the few owners that will let Bill completely run the ship, including being the GM and running the draft and free agency. Bill will be given carte blanche, and I fully expect he gets the band back together with McDaniels and Patricia coming back as coordinators.
The only two teams I really see in competition for Belichick are the Giants, who also need a full restart and Belichick would have a chance to revive the franchise he started with, and the Jags. Other teams will want some checks and balances of some sort and Bill isn’t putting up with that.
Good point.
Ben can utilize Lawrence to his strengths, although wasn’t Pederson known as a QB guy as well? #1 pick some good players on the roster and may not need as much a teardown as Brad had in year one with Detroit.
But, he is banking being able to fix Lawrence if he goes there.
