Itās worth noting that Achane and Gibbs both have 16 rushes that have gone for either a 1st down or a TD, but Achane has done it in half the carries (38 vs 76). Achaneās Yds to Go on his carries were 7.4 vs Gibbsā 6.5 YTG with 10 of Achaneās being 7+ yards or more to Gibbs only having 7+ on those same runs 8 times.
But sure, letās try and discredit Achaneās numbers to being due to 3 runs.
I donāt think heās discrediting his big runs. At least I didnāt take it that way. Achane has been great when he plays. Durability was always a concern for such a tiny RB though. Likely why he lasted as long as he did in the draft.
You speak facts, my friend. B4 the draft, I thought the Lions might get Achane in the 3rd or 4th as a relief back. Did not see him being a cheat code at running back tho! Kudos to him.
Thing I like about Gibbs is once heās comfortable, I can see him in sweeps, counters, and trick plays - becoming the guy you have to gameplan for or heāll kill ya!
Small sample sizes can at times make for interesting. Cadillac Williams average 145 yards per game in his first three. And then proceeded to end up with a 50 yards per game career average.
Not taking anything away from Achane. But 31 year old Mostert is running wild too. That Miami offense just has so much speed and talent. Defenses are terrified of Hill and Waddle leading to extremely light boxes to run on.
Iām not going to lie, I havenāt seen any of the Dolphins games. But FYI, Iām going to watch them, then come back and say some really stupid stuff.
I promised stupid takes, so after watching the 4 games that Achane had carries for Miami I can say that heās not a running back and he would be wasted on the Lions roster.
So the not a running back is obviously stupid, but the Dolphins really do run him in the manner that other teams would run a wide receiver in the backfield. Achane is basically a substitute for all plays that would otherwise have a receiver in the backfield. Achane runs between the tackles at about the same rate as Kalif Raymond. Granted Miami runs between the tackles at about the same rate as Mike Leach did when he ran Washington State.
There is just no way at this time that Achane could be a primary running back on a winning NFL team with the possible exception of the Dolphins. However the Dolphins complete disregard of the traditional run game may be why they can only beat bad teams. If the Lions tried to run their game with Achane as the primary back it would probably be pretty ugly.
Also, at least in the Denver game he had a couple big runs in garbage time so it was a lot of stat padding and that doesnāt count.
Obviously a small sample size, but I think itād be fair to call Keaton explosive. Like Gibbs and Achane, he was one of the backs who really stood as ālightning in a bottleā guys in the last draft. Iād have no issue including Mitchell in the most explosive runner talk. Iād expect him to trend back towards the average with more carries, but I donāt think Iād fight the argument that heās one of the more explosive backs in the league. Explosive meaning a threat to go the distance every time they touch the ball.
