Hope this isn’t true https://firstroundmock.com/2023/03/jahmyr-gibbs-late-second-round-role-player/
He’s most comfortable and explosive running behind the RG?
That sucks
Given the article, this is an interesting conclusion by the author:
I do like Gibbs more than Texas RB Bijan Robinson for these reasons:
Gibbs has acceleration Robinson does not show, and he is a harder, more energetic runner.
Gibbs offers more playmaking upside at the next level.
I think DM will be used as the workhorse RB and Gibbs will be in there in a variety of roles. Starting in the backfield, going out wide, going to the slot, staying in the backfield or going out wide and then coming back to the backfield.
A weapon as Lion’s front office as called him, Ben J will be able to scheme him in a lot of ways.
Now i see it’s Daniel Kelly who is behind this site. His work, scouting acumen, has been discussed on the board more than once in the past.
Just awful. 6.1 ypc. We can either talk about how the sky is falling, or we can pretend Ben Johnson is our OC…wait a minute…he IS!
Faith, my brother. Watch Gibby’s film and ask yourself if it looks like he takes too long getting out of the garage.
Running behind Ragnow/Vatai/Sewell isn’t a bad thing either. Gibby switches holes a lot (what she said). Plus, some inside running is necessary to assist in play action as well as set defenses up for counter action, misdirection, screens, etc later in games.
Nothing to see here. Who you trust…the guy who wrote this article, or Holmes?
…or Johnson?
100%
“Gibbs was a role player for Alabama”….
Yes, that role would be leading them in rushing and receiving.
And actually he lost me when he said Gibbs doesn’t have speed??
I think I’ll just watch film and make my own conclusions.
Load of poop. The guy contradicts himself and doesn’t seem to be able to come to basic conclusions about Gibbs’ traits.
He’s a 4.36 RB/WR but he doesn’t have pure speed. Interesting take bud. Oh, but he does have great acceleration. Hmmm, but he can’t get the edge you’re saying. And he doesn’t have elusiveness? Are you watching the same guy? Well, he’s elusive when you get the ball to him in space. Oh, okay. So you’re saying he has great acceleration but not great top speed, but then everyone else sees him run an elite time over 40 yards. And somehow he’s not a home run hitter, which is what virtually everyone else says he is. Hmmm.
Here’s what an SI writer had to say about 'Bama’s OL last year:
“…Alabama’s offensive seemingly lacked intensity in the trenches. The Crimson Tide’s offensive front wasn’t necessarily dominated week-in and week-out, but more often than not it seemed that quarterback Bryce Young and running back Jahmyr Gibbs were forced to make plays on their own rather than have wide-open holes created in front of them.”
It’s obvious when you watch Gibbs’ film. Many of the runs showed a hot mess in front of Gibbs. Don’t think he’ll see that slop much in DET. He will hit home runs because he will see holes to run through. When he did in college, he was gone.
Agree.
Then again, as I said above, it’s Kelly if I would have realized that prior to reading the link I would have passed.
This from the guy who had the Lions drafting Malik Willis at #2 and the Vikings drafting Carson Strong at #12 that year.
“Former NFL Scout” is a bit of an embellishment. I’d sum his NFL experience up as, errand boy, paper pusher, remote control operator and waste management engineer.
Yeah no clue who he is, was just making a funny (jab) at our RG position of weakness on the OL with our 2nd round RB we drafted at 12. That’s all but your right on that guy most likely
“Doesn’t have pure speed”? Oh come on. Watch the tape.
fastest guy out there…until Jamo comes back. LOL
His “case and point” example is “he couldn’t even outrun the Utah State defense.” Here is the play he is talking about. Look at how deep the guy was that “caught” him. The kid turned and ran as fast as he possibly could, with Gibbs eating into the kids head start with every step. Gibbs cut thru the guys arm tackle and left him on his butt. But since #27 was hustling his ass off, it slowed down Gibbs just enough that he got him inside of the 10 yard line.
Daniel Kelly is a former NFL Scout with the New York Jets.
Guess that settles that. Brad finally ■■■■■■ up and reached.
Lol
Leading in yards and receiving is a kind of role, I guess
Exactly! LOL.
Final words
His acceleration keeps him from dropping into the third round.
LOL
Wait. He led bama in receiving? Yards, catches, both?
I didn’t realize this.
ETA read the thread… Very impressive
