Jalen Carter maybe in Trouble

I don’t think he “just punched her” as I wasn’t address that specific case in detail. My point was in terms of the NFL draft the case years old…not weeks old like Carter’s case is right now. Simmons is a scum bag and that kind of behavior should not be tolerated.

Carter’s case is about reckless behavior. I’m not removing a guy for reckless behavior unless that behavior lands him in jail.

Driving fast/reckless behavior is not the same as abusing women/children, running illegal drugs, abusing drugs (Charlie Rodgers) or being an alcoholic. But if he misses a year or two in jail that changes everything.

Is Jalen looking at jail time? If this story remains constant it feels like a 50/50 deal to me.

The “character” box took a huge hit, for sure.
I don’t know how he can rehabilitate in two months.
If he loses his drivers license, that will make life a bit more difficult, but, I hope he does. For his own sake as much as public safety.

Assuming he doesn’t go to jail…is this really a character issue?

I am looking at this wondering if his reckless behavior lands him in jail. That matters to me.

But I don’t feel like this is a character issue overall. Am I wrong?

This stuff is what makes sports so much fun as it is a human endeavor. I draw the line at beating women/kids, I’ll add serious bullying as that is picking on those that are weaker than you, running drugs, abusing drugs (I don’t care if you smoke a little weed or drink a bit) and/or being an alcoholic. Is carter any of these things? Doesn’t seem like it to me.

I agree with you that its interesting to evaluate humans. For one person something can be a red flag and for another person its just something that happened. And one person can be spotless in terms of mistakes but behind the scenes is immature and slowly turning into a bad human. While someone else can have a series of bad shit happen and use it as motivation to actively make themselves a better human being each day.

Drives 90+ in a 45. Stopped and ticketed. On canera cop says please slow down going forward, I stopped another UGA guy yesterday. Text your team.

Drives 100+ in a town with traffic, in and out, crossing center turn lane and into oncoming traffic. Unknown sobriety state, while racing 2nd car that then kills 2 people, badly wounds another, almost slams into pedestrians…which he witnesses, as his car is hit by a cable that was suspended from a now sawed off telephone pole.

Leaves said scene instead of rendering aid.

Comes back and lies to police about it.

Sits on it for 45 days.

Turd meter?

I hear ya’. But is he going to jail?

This is reckless behavior. But is this a character issue? I think it is a valid question.

Good kid likes to drive fast and messed up OR refuses to learn lessons and will wind up in jail later?

He didn’t beat children or women, he isn’t running drugs, there is no weapon issue (gun issue) and he doesn’t appear to have a drug or alcohol issue.

Bad judgement or larger character issue? Going to jail?

Amazing how many people will give a pass because of this.

Cars kill more people than guns, and it’s not even on the same planet.

Unless new charges, not going to jail.

Character issues in that this is the first time hes been arrested, its the first time hes been caught racing, but it aint the first time he done did it. Even after getting pulled over recently. UGA peeps quietly saying he does this all the time.

Disregard for laws and safety as a feature, not a bug.

Fleeing the scene we can understand thr motivations, but if he wasnt drunk and didnt hit them, then character stays, issues runs. And remember, his “brother” was ejected at 104mph in a heavily wooded strip. Render aid? Comfort a dying man? Assist the two non fatalities YOU WERE JUST PARTYING WITH? Nope. Peace Out, Protect that Paycheck…thats what he did.

Someone will draft him in Rd 1.Could be us.

Still Turd Mountain

Don’t think he got ticketed did he? Cop seemed more concerned about the tint on the windows. When there are no consequences, did they do anything wrong?

I always learned the hard way. Had to make the mistakes myself, did a lot of illegal stuff and got caught for everything (terrible criminal). That said, if there were no consequences I doubt the lesson I learned would have been as impactful as they were.

So he actually must have stopped then if true!? Got out. And was told to leave by the others that were still alive?

Yea, he did last September. Doing an 89 in a 45. Got a $1000 fine. He should have been charged with reckless driving and probably lost his license the first time, and maybe the huge tragedy doesn’t happen, but the cop let him off easy and lectured him to tell his teammates to slow down. The lecture was unsuccessful sadly.

Or told tonm leave because 1 was ejected and splattered dead, the drunk “reserch analyst” driver was mortally wounded and 2 more hurt bad…

See, I thought I heard the cop say he doesnt care about the tint, but tell your teammates to slow down since he was # 2 in 2 days

Just awful really. Thank God they didn’t kill any innocent people.

Remember, Carter is likely a typical young turd. Suh was also a turd and he may end up a Hall of Fame player. Most young people are turds as they do stupid stuff. The key is to know the difference between a true character issue and a turd.

In terms of Holmes and Campbell…I think they know the difference and are likely to avoid BOTH kinds of issues.

I’m not sure where I stand on Carter at this point. If he is going to jail you HAVE to pass on drafting him at all. But I also don’t think this is a character issue. It IS a turd issue and there are a LOT of turds in the NFL who might learn and become solid adults soon.

For example I believe the Lions are VERY interested in LBer Trenton Simpson and likely with the 18th pick. Son of a Marine. Dan Campbell has likely seen both poor character guys and turds and the Lions are trying to avoid these kinds of guys.

Holmes and Campbell have dealt with this behavior before, in their first few months on the job.

Right, I remember that. And the Lions cut the dude immediately. The main difference was he was a fringe nfl player. The rules are often very different when you are a top player.

I completely agree, Carter will be treated differently than a fringe player.
