Jalen Reeves-Maybin embodies renewed vigor in his second stint with the Lions

While Reeves-Maybin has closely observed all the changes during the Lions’ training camp, one change he was thrilled to witness is the shift in mentality within Derrick Barnes. Throughout training camp, Barnes has demonstrated a completely new level of intensity and attention to detail. When asked about this transformation almost a week ago, he mentioned that he took the time to delve deep into his personal identity and faith.

Sometimes when players make statements like that, it’s hard to discern whether they’re merely searching for positive remarks to make on record, offering lip service, or if there’s actual substance to their claims.

In Barnes’ case, it’s quite evident, as Reeves-Maybin has taken notice and affirmed that he’s proud of Barnes’ growth from his rookie year to the present, highlighting several significant areas of his development.

“I think his leadership, his understanding of the defense, communication, confidence, (and) just trusting himself,” Reeves-Maybin said. “He’s been just a great person to watch out there.”

He was our best LB in 2021. Now he’s fifth on the depth chart. Not because he declined.

I must admit, I was shocked to see Barnes penciled in as the starter next to DST.
It’s nice to see another pick develop.
