Amazing what Houston looks like when we play him at his correct spot

Houston gets credit for the sack, but that tackle looked like a total pylon on that play.

Houston & Ukwu… our pass rush dudes we are relying on behind Davenport and in rush packages.

I don’t have much expectation for Paschal… as long as he can spell Hutch & Davenport on early downs that’s good enough role for him.

There was a fair bit of hype for Josh earlier in the preseason, hope he steps it up when season starts.

91 pass rush, 59.7 run defense. Dan definitely didn’t rubberstamp Houston for the 53 after the game yesterday. What will the braintrust do?

Keeping Paschal and cutting Houston would be absurd at this point.

Houston faked his man out like he was going outside and cut it back inside before there was any contact. Big man bought it hook, line and sinker.

Paschal has skills. He has a degree of strength and leverage that will always appeal to coach Dan. He can play as a reliable 4-3 DE and as a 3-4 DE. Really, anywhere from the 3t to the 7. He’s more Cominskey than he is Hutch or Davenport, but he’s easily a Lion.

Houston was invisible when Pitts starters were in there. He did look good against #74 though, listed as their back up LG who was playing RT for some reason on that play.

Shhhhh… Ppl need the Houston hype train to keep chugging… Can’t have logical details like this come out

The hype isn’t exactly unwarranted.

His pass rush win rate is unreal. Yes, it’s a small sample size, but it’s not microscopic.

It’s not foolish to recognize production at an important position.

I’m stoked we have Houston back looking like Houston.

And we found this kid Ukwu.

We didn’t get to draft an Edge or WR this past draft

Ukwu & Isaiah Williams should both make the teams as UDFA that’s amazing.

I was all ready to post some well-justified reasons that Houston was going to get cut. If you went by his first two pre-season games…he was horrible. I figured I’d wait until I saw what he did in the third game. I think he played his way onto the roster, I’m convinced he was out before the Pgh game.

Totally, you’ve shown yourself as very open to other opinions re:Houston.

And these aren’t logical details. These are opinions. You have decided to view the film a certain way. That is fine but there also is a glass half full approach in which he made a move with more explosion, lateral agility and suddenness that the overwhelming majority of pass rushing edges in this league. That was an NFL offensive lineman. Spencer Anderson is a guy that made the Steelers as a 7th round rookie. Anderson started both at Guard and Tackle. It was his short arms not his feet that necessitated the permanent move inside as a pro.

And James Houston didn’t just beat him. He left the dude’s jock strap on the astroturf.

He’s a flawed player but it’s hard to argue that he doesn’t have a knack for getting pressure.
