He looked a little better last week then against the Titans. Still a shell of himself from 2022.
But could Houston start finding heat? I think if he can get just 1 sack he might find that confidence in himself again and start to heat up. At least I am praying he does!!!

If you listen to Dan’s answers to questions about Houston in press conferences throughout the year, it seems obvious that though Dan will never throw somebody under the bus publicly, he’s expecting more from Houston that hasn’t manifested week in and week out.
His replies sound more like Houston has a lack of effort or attitude to me than anything else.
Dan’s diplomatic answer is that “we play the best players ; those who practice well during the week”, etc.
It’s almost like he’s trying to plant a seed in this kid’s mind and waiting / hoping for it to sprout, while holding on to him as a “when the cupboard’s absolutely empty” security blanket more than anything else at this point.

Houston is a CFL player imo.
Houston is very much a situational pass rusher. With the addition of Za’Da we will see just a few great situations for him. We are in a great place with Houston.
He is “very” situational. If we scheme up a call where the OT doesn’t block the DE, Houston is PHENOMENAL.
If the OT actually plans on blocking, I’ll put anyone else on the roster out there.
I thought Houston was looking pretty solid, although nowhere near his peak, in the early part of the game. 2nd half he was terrible but clearly had nothing left in the tank. Clearly he spent his off-season trying to bulk up which is the opposite you want to do if you’re going for endurance. Sometimes I think the Lions are intentionally trying to f-ck this guy. I would have been elated to keep the 2022 version myself.
Now we are talking…get him on some experimental horse steroids from China…we got nothing to lose at this point.

He believed that all he needed was snaps to prove it.
Dans still trying to send the message to him that he has a lot of work to do. I get the impression that Houston is not the most coachable player.
Houston was inactive 3 of the first 5 games. He’s played more since but not played well. 34.7 PFF grade.

James looks like the 4th edge player at best, even with all our injuries. I won’t be surprised if he’s sitting the bench…or simply not activated for the game.

Imo Houston hasn’t looked like himself but defense hasn’t collapsed with him in and he’s a depth player.
With Smith not playing tonight, he knows this could be his last chance to get significant snaps, he will be motivated

He was a 1 year flash in the pan and his glory day in the hot sun has passed…unfortunately we got nothing else so he survives the season and will be gone.
