Didn’t Miller run like 4.41 or something silly? Both he and Freeney were CB fast when they were drafted IIRC.
yup…
Von had some ridiculous testing numbers…
.
Freeney didn’t do many tests… but ran a 4.48 in the 40.
So Houston has some similarities and some dissimilarities.
Dumervil was a 4.75 guy. I really think that’s far and away the best comp that’s been brought up.
Some of these Brad finds are absurd. Top ten WR in the league in round 4. Potential ace pass rusher in round 6. Legit #2CB or nickel as a UDFA.
I’m wondering what Ezie looks like in a couple years. That length is pecial.
yea but until he drafts a TE in the 1st round the jury is still out
Where are you getting 225 lbs from?
Most sites had him listed in the 241-244 lb range.
Pro Day weighed in at 244 lbs:
As NFL teams like the Chiefs observed his Pro Day from March 23, Houston had incredible results: a 4.7 40-yard dash time, 39-inch vertical, and 10’5” broad jump. He put up these numbers at roughly 6’1” and 244 pounds.
Freeney’s probably not a very good comp because he was 268 lbs.
When he was at Florida he was 225, so some sites had that old info. He bulked up to play edge for Deion. Based on his height, I think 250 is about as heavy as he will ever be, otherwise it’s gonna slow him down
I think the 10 yards split is much more relevant for a pass rusher than the 40 yard dash. and Houston ran a 1.56 versus von Miller’s 1.57. Got to have the burst and Houston has it.
Is you listened to Aaron Glenn’s press conference today he compared him to Yannick Ngakoue, who Todd Wash coached in Jacksonville.
Oh shit I hope we get anywhere close to that production.
Who’s Ezie ?
Sorry, Eze. Obinna Eze. The TCU OT with the 36 1/8 inch arms that was our splash UDFA last year.
I forgot about him, he’s still on the PS isn’t he?
Good call, I’m hoping he can improve with a year of NFL training. He’s got the measurables for sure but he looked like a fish out of water in the preseason
I believe he played one year of HS football. Then he only played 67 snaps in his first two years. He’s raw as rain but given that length and our staff’s player development chops he’s got a chance.
Eze E…. we want Eze!

I wasn’t really familiar with Yannick. Never watched the raiders. There are a couple sacks where he turns the corner like Houston did. Little different body type, but similar style kinda.
There will ALWAYS be a place in the league for guys that can get to the QB, even if it is only as a situational guy.
On the sack in Jax game, Hutch was blocked by 3 guys. Line Houston up against their taller OT and they will start having to have the RB chip on Houston instead of Hutch. Romeo comes back as well. Get them QB’s down !!
With all due respect my friend I’m not as interested in what he weighed at his pro day vs his actual playing weight. Plus, most players lose weight as the regular season progresses. He might be playing around 233 right now if he started at 240. Either way I understand that it’s not just height/weight, but I do feel this is a lazy comp. The height/weight is the just the start of it.

The point I made about his weight is that he was 225 pounds at Florida…. BEFORE he transferred and changed positions… and over 18 months before he had his pro day.
Also… most edge players don’t “bulk up” for their pro days… they may actually lose weight to run and test better. Therefore… comparing Dumervil’s weight at combine or pro day to Houston at his pro day is the most reasonable… though still not a factor in the comp for me.
In terms of style of play… the comp made is based only on his pass rush ability. I think most people here realize that Dumervil played as a 3 down player with his hand in the dirt as a DE…. while Houston will likely always be in a 2-point stance and largely play on obvious passing downs.
It really just comes down to fact that they both are short enough to maintain leverage against bigger OTs, both have good arm length for their height, and both have shown good bend around the edge.
