Jamin Davis released, possible edge/SAM help

The Commanders have released former 1st round pick Jamin Davis. He was a Ron Rivera pick, which seems to be frowned upon in the Dan Quinn regime.

Interesting thing… is that Quinn tried playing him at EDGE… and I think he might have potential to be really good in our SAM/EDGE role.

this preseason….

.

Reminder… his RAS score was crazy high.

and… he has the LENGTH that helps on the edge.

As a “disappointment” for his draft position….
this is still a guy that had over 100 tackles in 2022, and was on pace for over 100 in 2023 before missing the final 4 games.

He had 17 TFLs across 2022 & 2023.
His 9 TFLs in 2022 were 15th amongst off ball LBs.
His 8 TFLs in 2023 was 24th amongst off ball LBs… and he only played 13 games.

.

If claimed off waivers (which may not be possible due to Lions low priority)… he would cost ~$1.5 million in salary for the rest of season.

I would like to give this guy a shot.

Seems like a low-risk flier we could take. He’s got the 1st round draft status so he won’t be unemployed for long.

When they took him so early in the draft…it reminded me of Jarad Davis

From Jarad Davis to Jamin Davis why not

Wow, kind of a shocker.
I remember loving this player coming out of school.

Prolly goes to the Patriots or Panthers

esp if he clears waivers. then we have a shot.

I was thinking Panthers, but the Patriots could also claim him. I could also see the Steelers picking him up.

The radio guys were talking here in DC about the fact that Washington is super-thin AT BOTH SPOTS and not only couldn’t he get on the field for them, they have just said, never mind …
Even the two LBers, D-coodinators, Rivera and Del Rio couldn’t get anything out of him. They tried, drafted him 1st round.

Not so sure about him.
