I don’t know who is at fault here but this is ridiculous.
Because defenses realize goff cant hit him with those wounded duck throws. He rarely throws a spiral anymore.
Looking at that there were a couple times he was wide open. A few times were it could of been an easy completion.
The come back route is there for the taking. He ran that against Tampa and had so much separation I can’t believe they haven’t ran that again.
He definitely needs more than one target. The Dolphins killed the Broncos with speed. We need to get Gibbs, Jamo, and Raymond involved this week.
Great post. Someone should forward it to Ben Johnson.
I didn’t see a bunch of wide open routes. However, I did see where there is a bit of a disconnect in the timing of how Jared likes to run the offense and the routes that Ben is putting Jamo on. To be able to hit Jamo on most of those plays would have required Jared to hold on to the ball and put all of his eggs on Jamo getting open. To me that’s on Ben. He needs to get Jamo higher up in the progression and get him routes that Jared can actually use without sacrificing the overall play progression.
Part of the speed was running it. They ran for over 300 yards. The Broncos are struggling against the run this season. The Jets dropped over 200 on them. The Bills went for nearly 200 (Josh Allen was only 13 of those yards).
I just reran this and stopped the video on every play when Goff was throwing
One crossing route Jamo was wide open and Goff threw it underneath for a completion.
The other routes are basically covered OR Jamo opens up just as a DL-men is getting to Goff
The Bears on several plays were running cover 2 and the CB took the sideline away leaving Jamo the middle but the safety had that covered, Throwing that ball would have most likely ended up in an interception.
I just don’t see this “Frequently open and WIDE open”
This route here he is open, but Goff was flushed and throwing on the run, complete’s it to the underneath receiver (Jamo circled)
This is NOT open
On this play they had the right play call and had Jamo isolated on the safety, problem is look at the pressure on Goff, Bears ran a stunt and the OL couldn’t adjust
I could capture al the routes in this video and it would show either
- Jamo was covered or
- OL let up pressure too quick and Goff was under pressure
Thats on Goff the dude is afraid to let it fly again. He is always looking for easy short passes. He’s not the same QB as early in the season and end of last season. I wonder if he might have a injury
Dude facts have no place here in the Den lexicon where Jamo is the greatest reciever ever and Goff can’t throw more than 8 yards
IF you really look at this video, Jamo really needs to work on his route running, more specifically the cuts. He rounds a lot of his cuts, they are not crisp.
This is the reason why a qb who has good feet and can buy even an LITTLE extra time is so valuable. If Goff shakes these guys and then makes the throw the whole ENTIRE defense has to change its gameplan week I and week out.
As it stands they are daring the lions and the lions are choosing ‘truth’ instead.
Looking at some of those plays and Jamo is open from an aerial view but not from the field view. Some of them when he’s “open” he’s not even looking back or the ball is already thrown to someone else. I guess I’m not seeing what you are seeing.
and that’s something, with him not looking back it seems like he’s told that he’s just the decoy every play. That has to be maddening.
It’s Goff. It’s not Ben Johnson. Goff doesn’t work with receivers like Jamo.
No receiver has ever been told he’s just the decoy. They are always taught to expect the ball… so if they aren’t looking… it’s on them
Goff has been a productive deep ball passer. I think in 2018 he was at the top of the league in deep passes and accuracy. Need to see more of this
Jamo is told when he is the decoy, along with the other receivers. Ben explains the purpose of the route so that Jamo can adjust on the fly if he needs to. Running a route to get open can take on a different shape than if you are running the route to grab the safety and take him with you (for instance).
I fully agree with you on being ready to catch the ball no matter what. Jamo has already said that Ben emphasizes that, so its on him to do that. That being said the timing of the routes he is running don’t seem to sync up with the rest of the play. He’s running a 20 yard out route and he would have to start looking back at 12 yards. That’s not normal, and its not what coaches teach.
If every QB threw the ball at the first hint of pressure, we might as well put skirts on them. I know Jared is a non-athlete for sure, but even he should be able to move in the pocket a little. Jamo is getting open plenty early here and this excuse just doesn’t fly with me. We’re talking about one of the better o-lines in the NFL too.
How about this - before the pocket collapses completely, heave the ball downfield to a spot where you would like him to catch it. Let him put on his Superman cape and fly to the damn ball!
