You may recall that during the Lions opener vs the Chiefs, besides Taylor leaving early, there were complaints and observations that Taylor was lined up too far back.
Here’s an excerpt from NFL Rules Expert Terry McCauley:
Throughout Thursday’s game, Taylor could be seen lining up questionably deep along the offensive line. The NBC broadcast to brought in rules expert Terry McAulay to discuss the situation, who indicated that Taylor was “not even remotely close” to being in a legal formation.
“To be on the line, his helmet has to break the waist line of the center. And to be honest, we’ve watched him the whole game, he’s really not remotely close,” McAulay said to NBC’s Mike Tirico. “And it’s really putting the defender at a tremendous disadvantage when he can be that far back.”
There was a sideline photo of the Kadarius Toney play where Taylor and the LT were both lined up illegally:
It’s actually kind of funny when you start paying attention to who the nfl protects and who they don’t. You come anywhere near Rodgers, mahomes, or any quarterback in the top ten you’re getting a penalty. On the other side of the coin you can watch tannehill and Jimmy g get blasted out of bounds with no penalty called. It’s crazy how little the league cares about being hypocrites. It would actually be refreshing if they actually came out with a statement that said “ we protect the players that make us money. Good luck to the rest of you.”
Yeah the Bears are whining about Fields getting hit while being a runner. But there was one play where Goff got thrown to the turf pretty violently after he released the ball. They don’t show a replay and there was no flag. But definitely would have been one were it Mahomes
